RSPB offers RICS members the chance to do what they do best to protect and enhance the varied estate. This position is home-based within Norfolk or Suffolk, supporting work within our Central and Eastern Area. We are seeking an experienced and self-motivated Rural Surveyor to join the RSPB’s England Land Team. The successful applicant will manage a specific portfolio of properties in the region and support the wider delivery of departmental casework across the country. The location of the role is flexible within this area. Key activities include:

Land and Property Management:

Carrying out due diligence to manage the legal, reputational and financial aspects of rural property. Advising on agricultural matters, agri-environment agreements, granting leases and licences. Appraising, negotiating and concluding acquisitions to establish and extend reserves. Land and Property Disposal:

Appraising, advising and delivering on the acquisition and disposal of surplus land and properties. Risk Management and Project Support:

Supporting the development and implementation of systems to manage risks arising from land and property operations. Providing professional support to Area Teams and assisting in the production of codes of practice. The England Rural Surveyors work together with a strong team ethos, sharing professional expertise and knowledge. You will work alongside building surveyors and support Area Managers. RSPB will support you in maintaining your RICS qualification and provide in-house and external support to meet CPD requirements. Some site visits may involve overnight stays away from home. Essential qualifications, knowledge, skills and experience:

Chartered member of RICS (Rural) or equivalent professional organisation. Demonstrable post qualification knowledge of estate management in the rural environment. Understanding of agricultural subsidy schemes in England. Knowledge of project management principles. Ability to communicate complex estate management issues clearly. Ability to make pragmatic decisions based on sound analysis. Ability to positively influence wider audiences. Ability to negotiate and achieve corporate outcomes. Awareness of the Charities’ Act requirements. Ability to manage and prioritise competing objectives. Ability to travel widely and stay overnight when required. This is a full-time, permanent vacancy.
