Onsite working

is expected for

3 days each week; however, we actively support requests for flexible working. The role will be based in

Culham, Oxfordshire. This role requires employees to

complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) , including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions and possibly a search of open source data. The Role

The safety case engineering team is growing and has a role available for an experienced Safety Case Engineer to join UKAEA on a permanent basis. The team provides safety case services and expertise to existing and future fusion facilities at UKAEA and the wider fusion community, providing assurance to UKAEA that all process hazards are identified to meet organisational and legislative requirements. You will work with projects developing novel and unique technologies and processes, assessing the impacts to people from a radiological and industrial hazard’s perspectives. The team provides a service to a wide range of end users, from small lab scale experiments to complete fusion power plants. The role carries opportunities to engage with a wide range of projects and technical areas. This presents you with a breadth of technical and project-related opportunities to increase your expertise and enabling for career enrichment and development. You will be responsible for

Producing, managing, developing and maintaining multiple Safety Cases for UKAEA Facilities; working with ATO holders and with the Chief Engineer function in the fitness for service assessment of implemented safety-related equipment. You will manage the assessment and modifications of established safety cases and provide advice to designers on the safety implications of their proposals as well as determining whether the safety limits are being challenged. You will need to engage and respond to external peer reviewers to independently assure the effectiveness of UKAEA safety cases and safety arguments. Qualifications

Essential skills, experience and competence required Technical Degree or equivalent in Science or Engineering. Safety Case writers training. Experience in Safety Case Production. Training and experience in undertaking HAZOP studies. Experience of Fault Schedule production. Extensive experience in performing Design Basis Analysis (DBA) and Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA). Knowledge of radiation physics. Knowledge and experience of using HTML and XML. Managerial Experience of managing a highly technical team including matrix management of small teams of 3-4 professionals including contractors, responsible for motivation, performance and project completion.
