- Contract role - Hybrid working (Somerset) - £competitive Synergize Consulting are now hiring for a Safety Consultant to work at a leading client of ours in the defence sector, on a contract basis. The successful candidate will be working in a large engineering team and will have a key role in overseeing safety decision making by consulting on structural issues relating to a number of defence projects. Responsibilities include: Setting design requirements for a number of surveys, repairs and concessions within the given areas of responsibility for maintenance periods carried out on in-service vessels. Ensuring in-service vessels remain safe to operate whilst in deployment and maintenance. Developing design changes for structures in conjunction with industry standards to improve safety or capability when required. Supporting and conducting structural surveys at key defence sites as and when required. Experience required: A strong mechanical and engineering background with previous experience of working in a safety-related role. Previous experience in a specific structural engineering/consulting role. Expertise in producing, and reviewing, structural designs and maintenance assessments. Defence background, ideally in a maritime setting, would be highly desirable. Professional registration, or qualification in an engineering discipline, would be desirable. Knowledge of constructive engineering, and an awareness of safety and environmental management standards. Due to the nature of the client, it would be an advantage for candidates to hold, or be eligible and willing to undergo a certain level of security clearance (SC).
