Sales and Marketing Executive – Workington

Chimney Sheep Ltd

are recruiting for a Sales and Marketing Executive to be based predominantly at their site in Workington at Derwent Howe (some home working available). Read their job advert from their Founder, Sally Phillips: This is a varied and interesting role. Our main product is a draught excluder for chimneys, but we have an increasing range of sustainable products. We’re at a point in our business growth where we are establishing ourselves as a trusted brand for sustainable solutions. We need someone who can help us take this brand forward to enable our strategic growth. Hang on though. The first and foremost attribute I’m looking for is a passion for the environment. It’s what we’re all about so our marketing executive must “get” us and what our messaging is about. So in your application please let me know something about your own concerns are about the environment and ideally any campaigning or fundraising or anything you’ve been up to. We have an interesting range of products and a lot of stories to tell. It’s a perfect opportunity for someone with a strong marketing background to review what’s working, what’s not working, and help develop a marketing strategy. I’m looking for someone who can lead on this, and determine what resources are necessary, set targets and have clear strategies for measuring these and quantifying success of campaigns. We’re an ecommerce business, so there is a lot of copywriting involved. We like to explain the products to customers so it’s not just blah for SEO, it needs to be compelling, engaging, and succinctly written in our friendly but informative tone. You need to be able to research and write interesting articles. You will also need to write engaging press releases and follow up with journalists and cultivate relationships with them. You must have experience and knowledge of ecommerce and website management. Other useful skills include a working knowledge of Klaviyo, experience with Shopify, and a high level of computer literacy. You don’t need me to spell it out really, but you will need to be very good friends with Google and have an excellent understanding of what Google requires to keep her happy. Also other search engines and formats. Plus you need to be highly competent at making use of data and drilling into the analytics, using the information to inform ongoing marketing activities. You must be brimming with ideas for engaging content and how to deliver it, and how to convert it to followers, likes, reactions and ultimately to be blunt, to get people to buy stuff from us. We’re all about sustainability, so we don’t want people to buy stuff they don’t need. But if they need to buy stuff, we want them to buy it from us. You need to be an excellent communicator, both written and verbal. You need to liaise with the rest of the team to ascertain which products are selling or not selling, create strategies for promoting the slow-sellers, and warn the production crew if a particular product or collection of products is about to be promoted. You need to be able to set realistic targets for yourself and colleagues, to work cooperatively with others to meet the targets, and to communicate to the CEO when the workload is too much and additional resources are required. You must be able to recruit additional help as and when necessary. We can offer a friendly working environment and if you’re passionate (and worried) about the environment then you will feel like you are doing a valuable and worthwhile job. The hours are 37.5 a week but there is some flexibility in when these are worked. It will be mainly office based but some hours can be worked at home and sometimes the job will involve traipsing around one of our sites which belongs to our Community Interest Company, Buy Land Plant Trees. The job is busy and challenging but a home/ work life balance is important so you’re not expected to be at the beck and call of customers on social media at all hours. The salary is £26,000 to £35,000 depending on experience. If you think you’re worth more than that then you can still apply and pitch yourself to me. Just, it can be hard to find exactly the right person so I’m trying to cast the net wide because you may be brilliant in some areas but not in others, in which case we can train you up. If you’re brilliant at everything that’s amazing. Main thing is your passion for the environment. I know I keep going on about this but you’d be surprised by how many applicants I get who ignore this bit. Thank you for reading and I look forward to hearing from you.
