Are you an experienced Speech and Language Therapist seeking to be involved in new ways of working to support vulnerable children with SLCN? As part of the SEND and AP Change Programme, Luton and Central Bedfordshire Local Authorities are setting up multi-disciplinary Alternative Provision Specialist Teams. The team of co-located specialists, including a Speech and Language Therapist, will undertake integrated, child-centred work with pupils and their families, sharing information and their expertise. This post holder will work closely with the multi-disciplinary team to assess and facilitate the communication skills of children referred as part of the programme. The post involves identification at a highly specialist level, the types of communication disorders found in this client group and the provision and delivery of a range of appropriate interventions to the young people and their case managers. The post holder will actively contribute to the strategic development of speech language and communication policy and provision within the APST programme. About Us

Be responsible for the overall delivery of SLT assessments and interventions within the MD team. Develop clear pathways for referral, assessment and intervention plans. Ensure appropriate data collection to evidence outcomes and effectiveness of the role. Ensure that the service to young people accessing the service is effective and well-coordinated through the implementation of evidence-based practice, clinical governance programmes, and monitoring and evaluation. Take responsibility for effective partnership working across agencies for this part of the service. Develop understanding of communication difficulties, interventions, and support strategies for the APST staff and partner agencies and measure the effectiveness of this. Undertake training for APST staff and wider school team to raise awareness of communication difficulties faced by the young people and offer strategies to facilitate their communication. Facilitate access to mainstream services and referrals for diagnosis or support as appropriate. Develop clear care plans based on best practice. Plan, organise, and prioritise own workload, clinical and non-clinical commitments. Demonstrate standard keyboard skills for entering records/data onto management information systems within the APST service as well as report writing. Travel throughout the borough of Luton and Central Bedfordshire and less often to establishments outside the Borough as required. Use clinical skills to generate written reports reflecting specialist knowledge. Provide appropriate specialist intervention and evaluate outcomes. Provide highly specialist advice to others in relation to client group. Employ counselling skills with young people and their families/carers with complex needs. Employ excellent presentation skills to promote multi-disciplinary and interagency liaison and collaborative practice across a broad range of audiences. Person Specification

Degree in Speech and Language Therapy HCPC registration Member of the RCSLT Evidence of successful completion of specialist postgraduate short courses Experience
Knowledge and experience of working with a broad range of clinical disorders, assessments, and appropriate therapeutic interventions in SLT. Well-established knowledge of a broad range of SLT clinical assessment tools relevant to adolescents/young people who offend. Experience in inter-agency working. Experience in developing and delivering training to other disciplines, carers, and service users. Demonstrates well-established understanding of the principles of clinical governance/audit. Experience of working with young people in probation, criminal justice, and youth. Experience leading and motivating others. Skills
Exceptional communication skills - able to communicate at all levels. Proven ability to work effectively in partnership with others and towards joint goals. Proven ability to write and present complex reports and presentations in a clear and focused way to a variety of audiences. Disclosure and Barring Service Check
