Purpose of the role: A highly important and dynamic role which provides direct support to the British Armed Forces in preparing future system administrators and maintainers for live roles in operational theatres. The role is for an On-site engineer, a key role within the Deployed support organisation for DII(D) Training Infrastructure to the Military. This position as On-site engineer is a high profile and fulfilling role which requires close co-operation and interaction with the deployed communications staff of the British Armed Forces. Must have SC or be willing to undergo SC process. Primarily Deployed support is delivered remotely by several resolver groups from within DXC, providing support in the following areas: 3rd & 4th line Support to Deployed Military Operations and exercises. Desktop, Infrastructure & Application hosting Support. Server infrastructure support across all disciplines, Network & Security support. The On-site engineers will act as a local level 2 & 3 Resolvers, for the DII(Land Deployed) training site infrastructure, directly resolving technical issues wherever possible or relaying them to dedicated 4th line support teams. Key Responsibilities: Must be a self-motivated and determined individual. Knowledge of the operational environment in which DII is deployed. Ability to cope under pressure in a highly visible environment. Flexible with work times to resolve major problems quickly. Ability to work independently without constant guidance. Ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external customers. Willingness to learn and develop skills. Responsible for system maintenance and monitoring ensuring system availability and data integrity. Resolve the majority of tickets received rather than just logging and passing them on. Technical Skills Required: In-depth working knowledge of Desktop Infrastructure & Application Support including: SQL Server Administration. SharePoint Implementation and administration. Windows Active Directory, GPO's & DNS, and Unix Server Infrastructure Management. Networking: Extensive knowledge of network types (e.g. LAN, VLAN etc.). Microsoft Exchange and LCS Messaging Support. NetApps SAN Storage Management. SCOM. PowerShell - Scripting background an advantage but only needs the capability to understand scripts rather than write them. Skype for Business. McAfee EPO. Sanctuary/Lumension. HP Operations Orchestration (HP OO). Additional Qualifications: Previous Military/operational experience – not essential. Large scale infrastructure support experience. Experience of supporting complex, distributed software. At least 2 years Systems Administration experience in a distributed environment. MCSE qualified, or working towards this in a similar environment.
