JOB PURPOSE
To use professional catering skills and support the Trust Chef in the overall management of the kitchen and staff in accordance with and to the standard of the Trust Policies and procedures, meeting the requirements of the School Food Plan, Health & Safety and Food Hygiene Legislation and best practice.
To calculate the amounts and appropriate timings for these meals, serve the meals and clean down at the end of service.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Provide catering services including preparation, cooking, serving, and cleaning. Deliver other catering services and special functions as required.
2.Provide meals for staff on Training Days.
3.Setting up of the service counter, serve students and staff, provide replenishments as necessary and clearing and cleaning the same.
4.Clearing, cleaning, and washing up within the kitchen, including in-depth cleaning on cleaning days, using any specialised products, equipment and methods authorised.
5.Provide direction for the Kitchen Assistant to ensure smooth running of the kitchen.
6.Along with the Kitchen Assistant ensure that all tasks are efficiently completed, ensure that correct working practices and methods are used by all kitchen staff to produce high quality food service and comply with Food Safety and Health & Safety legislation. To carry out training as required.
7.Daily clerical duties such as receipt of goods, stock taking and rotation. Ensure food deliveries are correct, and food is stored at the correct temperature.
8.Prepare and cook meals in accordance with the three weekly menu plans in conjunction with the Trust Chef.
9.Make gravies, custards, prepare vegetables, salads and sandwiches when required.
10.Serve meals ensuring they are at the correct temperature and recorded as the correct temperature.
11.Wash up, dry, and put away all pots, pans and utensils used in food preparation and clean all surfaces to maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
12.Report mechanical defects.
13.Ensure kitchen is secure at the end of each day.
14.To undertake Personal Development and attend any training courses or meetings as required.
15.To be flexible should transfer to other schools be required to cover sickness or leave.
16.Demonstrate awareness/understanding of equal opportunities and other peoples behavioural, physical, social and welfare needs.
17.Ensure that reasonable care is always taken for health, safety and welfare of yourself and others, and to comply with policies and procedures relating to health and safety.
18.Additional hours for events as and when required. These will be paid on timesheet.
19.Carry out any other duties which fall within the broad spirit, scope, and purpose of this job description and which are commensurate with the grade of the post.
Location
Your main place of work with be Chelveston Road School, however, it may be necessary for you to travel between any of the Trust sites.
