In addition to specific role responsibilities, post holders will also be required to work on some LME events which take place at the weekend (such as the TCS Mini London Marathon, the Vitality Westminster Mile and The Big Mile). There is a Time Off In Lieu policy to compensate for weekend event working. The role: This is a new role funded by the London Marathon Foundation within the London Marathon Events (LME) School Engagement Team which comprises of the Head of School Engagement and two managers with extensive experience of school sport, physical activity, education and events. LME has worked with The Daily Mile Foundation since 2018 to introduce The Daily Mile to London’s schools. Our partnership with The Daily Mile Foundation is now widening to take on responsibility for more areas in England. The regional School Engagement Lead for West Midlands will play a critical part in the growth of initiatives to promote children’s physical activity, including The Daily Mile, TCS Mini London Marathon, junior parkrun and exploring opportunities connected to the 2026 European Athletics Championships hosted in Birmingham. The role will help establish strategic connections between these initiatives, so more children are inspired to be active both in school and out of school. Reporting to the National Schools Manager in the LME School Engagement Team, the School Engagement Lead will primarily focus on the growth, implementation and sustainability of The Daily Mile in schools and settings in the West Midlands, specifically working in areas where there are high levels of inactivity and/or underserved children and young people. The role will require a high degree of innovation, initiative and self-motivation, as well as the ability to operate strategically and make connections across different organisations. It will involve working directly with schools, teachers, educators, early years practitioners and children, as well as liaising with Local Authorities, City Councils, Academy Chains, Active Partnerships and other organisations working within the school sport and activity sector. Essential
Experience of working with or in schools/educational settings. Experience of developing short and long-term plans and delivering these in a school/education setting. Experience of initiating, leading and developing partnership work with organisations who work with children and young people. Experience of developing and leading projects. Experience of working across different teams and managing competing priorities. Experience in target setting and monitoring progress against KPI’s. Educated to degree level or proven ability to work to this level. A good knowledge of current insight into factors relating to increasing participation in PE, sport and physical activity. An understanding of the education landscape and current issues facing schools. Knowledge of The Daily Mile and the role of regional stakeholders, such as local authorities or Active Partnerships. An understanding of current safeguarding practices in relation to children and young people. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience of presenting to children and young people, as well as partners and stakeholders. Be able to work efficiently on own initiative, under pressure and maintain a high standard of work. Demonstrates innovative approaches and ability to think outside of the box. Must be able and willing to work unsocial hours including occasional evenings and weekends. Desirable

Position The Daily Mile as a fundamental part of a whole school approach to wellbeing, demonstrating the initiative’s wider impact on positive outcomes for children and young people. Grow the number of schools/settings participating in The Daily Mile, with a focus on schools and early years settings within areas of high deprivation. Work with parkrun and local and national partners to establish ‘participation pathways’, connecting The Daily Mile with primary school run clubs and junior parkrun. Significantly grow the TCS Mini London Marathon in schools programme and other relevant LME events within the specified regions. Explore opportunities specific to Birmingham/West Midlands, such as through the Athletics Ventures Partnership and European Athletics Championships (hosted in Birmingham in 2026). Engage and retain Roll out The Daily Mile national recognition scheme (Children’s Fit for Life Award). Work with local partners to deliver The Daily Mile themed events and activations, including coordinating athlete (or ambassador) visits. Contribute to the development of The Daily Mile’s peer-learning Community of Practice Network, the creation of The Daily Mile Young Leaders programme and the new Daily Mile Foundation website. Support with the planning and creation of an annual calendar of campaigns, including links to the TCS Mini London Marathon in schools. Monitoring and evaluation Deliver against The Daily Mile Impact and London Marathon Group Impact Measurement Framework, reporting progress against agreed KPIs. Creation of reports for local and regional partners, sharing data and insights into Daily Mile participation and successful connections to other participation pathways.
