The Role An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part-time School Nurse at the School. The Medical Centre provides first aid, emergency care, and health support to all members of the school community. The purpose of the role is to provide a high standard of service within NMC guidelines to pupils, staff, and visitors, as well as managing pupils with chronic medical conditions. The School Nurses work closely with the Assistant Head (pupil welfare), the School’s counsellors, and the Section Heads overseeing the three pastoral units within the School. They also collaborate with the Head of Personal Social and Health Education on health education issues. Key Responsibilities Organising and running nurse drop-in health and welfare clinics for pupils and staff. Providing first aid (physical and mental health) and emergency care as necessary, including pitch-side/sports emergency first aid. Providing wellbeing and mental health support, and signposting to support services as appropriate. Ensuring pupil care plans are followed for conditions such as asthma, epilepsy, diabetes, and anaphylaxis. Operating procedures for the control of infectious diseases. Administering medications under protocol and maintaining accurate dispensing records. Maintaining stock in the treatment room and first aid kits, ensuring hygiene and tidiness. Maintaining accurate, confidential, and secure school medical records. Keeping up-to-date with professional developments through relevant nursing organizations. Adhering to the NMC code of professional conduct and being familiar with the scope of professional practice. Ensuring effective handover between Nursing shifts as required. Skills and Qualifications A professional nursing qualification resulting in registration on the NMC register, with at least 2 years post-registration experience. Good communication skills for clear, concise, and timely oral and written communications. Sensitivity and the ability to listen and understand others' needs. Self-motivation, with a conscientious approach and initiative. Teamwork skills to work closely with pupils, teachers, and staff, ensuring effective cooperation. Commitment to professional development, with resources made available for maintaining post-registration education.
