Salary: Competitive Location: Croydon Job Type: Full-time We are supporting a Special Secondary School in their search for an experienced 1-to-1 Support Worker to provide dedicated assistance to a high-needs Year 10 student. This role is ideal for a compassionate, structured, and proactive professional who is skilled in supporting young people with special educational needs, particularly those with ADHD and sensory sensitivities. Day-to-day of the role:
Provide consistent, individualised support in a calm, low-stimulation environment to promote focused learning. Manage anxiety, support emotional regulation, and improve social interactions for the student. Address academic challenges, particularly in literacy and writing, while building the student’s confidence. Implement regular movement breaks and sensory accommodations tailored to the student’s needs. Develop strategies to reduce anxieties during peer interactions and unstructured times, including escorting the student during transitions between lessons. Maintain a predictable routine and prepare the student for transitions to minimize stress caused by change. Collaborate with specialists, such as occupational therapists, to address posture and physical needs, enhancing the student’s overall well-being. Work closely with the student’s family to ensure consistency between home and school environments. Required Skills & Qualifications:
Proven experience as a 1-to-1 Support Worker or similar role, particularly with high-needs students. Expertise in managing special educational needs, including ADHD and sensory sensitivities. Strong ability to provide tailored emotional regulation and social skills training. Excellent collaboration skills to work effectively with families and specialists.
