You would be an integral member of our school's Senior Leadership Team. OFSTED (Nov 2023) said Pupils with SEND follow the full curriculum. The school works closely with parents and carers, and with other professionals, to quickly identify any additional needs that pupils may have. This aids staff to provide timely and effective support so pupils with SEND typically learn well. We require an enthusiastic and highly committed SENDCo who will take a creative approach to working with our pupils, according to their educational needs, ensuring delivery of the school curriculum in a way that maximises children's achievement and ability to develop. We are excited to be developing our provision which includes a new building for interventions and support with a supportive staff team that are on a journey to create the best inclusive practice for all our children. Salary will be dependent on skills and experience. Start date: Tuesday 22nd April 2025, to initially work alongside the current SENDCo to ensure a smooth transition. The role of SENDCo at Waltham Leas Primary Academy is a crucial, specialised role and this position requires a teacher with Qualified Teacher Status together with relevant SENDCo qualifications or SENDCo experience, as outlined by the SEND Code of Practice. For the right candidate, we will consider funding the SENDCo qualification. The SENDCo will work with the Headteacher and the Board of Directors to oversee the strategic development of the SEND policy and provision in the school to raise achievement and ensure the students have high ambitions and achieve the best possible outcomes. Responsibilities:
The Hive' intervention group on a daily basis, working with an HLTA. You will work with class teachers to plan specific outcomes for the children in this group, who will return to their class in the afternoon. Co-ordinating the provision for pupils as outlined in their EHCPs or support plans. Working with the school therapy team, the teaching staff, parents and carers, outside agencies including Local Authorities, other schools (Y6 transition) and pupils. Co-ordinating annual EHCP reviews. Liaising with parents. Ensuring compliance with all statutory requirements of the Code of Practice, including advising on a graduated approach to providing SEN support. Monitoring and evaluating provision and progress. The SENDCo will: Provide professional guidance to teachers and Teaching Assistants seeking to overcome barriers to learning and sustaining effective teaching. Analyse assessments of students' needs. Monitor the quality of teaching regarding the use of specific resources to enable children to access learning effectively. Monitor individual SMART targets and ensure the progress of all pupils is appropriate. Co-ordinate the triage and admission of pupils. Be familiar with the Local Authority's Small Steps.
