Role Purpose Join our Hydrogen team as a Senior Research Analyst - Hydrogen Assets. You will develop financial valuation models, focusing on discounted cash flow models for low-carbon hydrogen projects. Assessing project viability and providing accurate cost, contract, and revenue inputs will be key responsibilities. A strong understanding of pricing structures and financial analysis is required. Collaboration with cross-functional teams is essential for success. Main Responsibilities Lead and mentor junior team members in developing and refining financial models and research methodologies. Provide strategic insights to guide the hydrogen team’s long-term approach to asset analysis and valuation. Proactively contribute to the development of best practices for financial modeling and project assessment, ensuring scalability and adaptability to new market dynamics. Create and maintain discounted cash flow (DCF) models for low-carbon hydrogen projects. Analyse evolving project structures, operating models, and configurations, considering integration with upstream assets (e.g., wind farms) and downstream derivatives (e.g., ammonia). Integrate with midstream analyses to provide delivered cost of hydrogen and derivatives to demand centres. Consider asset emissions profile and its impact on government subsidies, leveraging Wood Mackenzie’s emissions model. Engage with project developers and other stakeholders to ensure accuracy and to demonstrate expertise. Work with our Centre of Excellence to research fiscal terms, subsidies, taxes, and grants to incorporate into the analysis of the projects. Communicate results through asset reports, industry insights, and various channels such as conference calls, webinars, conferences, and client visits. Build a strong relationship with industry stakeholders in the hydrogen space. Engage with project developers through frequent conversations on how project structures are evolving, understanding their perspectives, and how that may influence our analysis. Enhance data inputs through surveys, interviews, and secondary research to strengthen model accuracy. Knowledge and Experience Experience of financial modelling of energy assets. Demonstrable experience in hydrogen or hydrogen-adjacent industries. Strong familiarity with the policy landscape and its importance to the assessment of future low-carbon hydrogen projects. Familiar with energy demand, technology adoption, and technology cost modelling. Strong problem-solving capabilities. Capable of switching between the roles of an individual contributor and a collaborator. Strong communication skills. Comfortable interacting with clients and industry stakeholders. An engaging nature, capable of connecting with co-workers, clients, and industry stakeholders in a wide range of professional settings.
