Main function of job We are seeking a talented individual to join A Growing Audit team in St Albans, which provides a wide range of audit, advisory, and accounting services to a large, diverse range of clients. Key responsibilities This is a split role working on 90% audits and 10% accounts preparation. Planning, performing, and completing audits with turnovers up to £350 million working closely with managers, directors, and partners. Project manage the audit process through close liaison with clients to confirm progress, identify solutions to any hurdles, and ensure reasonable expectations are met. Ensure audits are completed with minimal supervision, to deadlines, and within budget. Supervision, training, and assisting junior staff with technical accounting and auditing problems. Preparation of draft statutory accounts and consolidated accounts under FRS102, IFRS, and FRS101 from clients’ draft figures. Drafting recommendations to management for improvements following audit fieldwork (including identification of control weaknesses or areas of improvement). Preparing responses for group reporting for clients where we are the component auditor. Equipment used Use of computer packages including ProAudit, CCH Accounts Production (AP), Sage, Quick Books, Xero, Alphatax, Inflo, and Microsoft Office would be desirable. Laptop is provided. Qualifications/education required Ideally ACA or ACCA qualified (degree not essential) or sitting finals imminently. Experience required At least 2.5 years’ experience in a practice of a mid-size firm or larger having had audit experience throughout their career to date. Particular aptitudes / skills required As well as being able to prepare completed audit files for a large variety of clients to a high standard with minimal guidance from the manager, the applicant should be a good communicator and be able to deal confidently and effectively with both clients and staff alike. They should be able to cope with both pure audits and with jobs where the records are not straightforward and should be able to work within deadlines and budgets. Ideally, they will also have experience of controls-based audits. Technically strong with a good and up-to-date knowledge of accounting and auditing standards with the ability to identify, research, and help to resolve complex auditing and accounting issues. They should also be able to demonstrate a passion for delivering quality and ensuring client needs are met. They need to be organised and commercially minded whilst maintaining a flexible and professional approach.
