Your role and responsibilities

A role in Internal Audit offers a great chance to learn how the council operates. As a Senior Auditor, you'll assist the Head of Internal Audit in providing quality audit services for the County Council, with the goal of delivering an annual opinion on governance, risk, and control. You'll need to be self-motivated, work independently and as part of a team, and manage tasks within set timeframes and budgets. As a Senior Auditor, you will conduct audits of various departments and services, identify areas requiring improvement and recommend actionable solutions, ensure adherence to relevant laws and regulations, and collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders to enhance service delivery. Establishing good relationships with chief officers and auditees is important for becoming a reliable advisor. Effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary, as well as the ability to interpret complex policies and explain them clearly to non-technical audiences, along with the judgement and creativity required to solve problems independently. Managing multiple complex projects at the same time and prioritising tasks effectively to meet deadlines is also essential.

You will need

The Career Pathway is designed around the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors Certified Internal Auditor qualification. Suitable qualifications and experience are necessary to determine your entry point, check the job and person profile document - link below, and eligibility to study. However, it is not necessary to take this pathway as other audit/finance related qualifications will be considered. You may even be an individual with a high level of auditing experience which would also be a consideration for appointment to stage 3.
