Performance Related Pay Bonus The Role At Splash Damage, we create multiplayer shooter games that champion team play and promote lifelong friendships. Backend Engineers at Splash Damage are responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining the backend services that power our award winning live-service multiplayer games. As a Senior Backend Engineer you will work within game feature teams, collaborating closely with other disciplines such as online services, design, gameplay and UI, to create backend services which drive game features such as player accounts, inventories, game sessions, social features and much more. With a strong focus on functionality, maintainability, scalability and performance, you will be responsible for owning the architecture and implementation of key features within our cloud-based backend infrastructure. You Excel At: Communicating ideas, intent and constraints to both technical and non-technical team members. Working across disciplines to solve difficult problems in a fast-moving, highly collaborative team. Breaking down your work into measurable and achievable tasks. Taking ownership of features and autonomously driving them to completion. Writing clear, maintainable and reliable code and documentation. You Have: Proficiency in one or more backend-related programming languages (Go preferred) and associated technologies. Proven experience as a backend engineer, with a strong track record of designing and implementing systems to be deployed in a live and high-traffic environment. Solid understanding of API design, database technologies (relational and non-relational), and deployment pipelines. Strong practical knowledge of distributed services and scalable architectures. Knowledge of Linux fundamentals. Good experience writing tests at all levels and producing clear documentation targeted for different technical audiences. Even Better If You Have: The ability to deploy, run and troubleshoot your own services. Experience in the games industry in backend or online services. Experience using game backend-as-a-service technologies (e.g. EOS, PlayFab) Experience with cloud deployment services such as AWS, and containerization technology such as docker.
