Role Purpose You will work in collaboration with the Building Control Manager and Team Leader. You will work with confidence and provide efficient, effective, and professional Building Control services to ensure that controlled works and related matters are carried out in accordance with statutory requirements and having regard to the Council’s values and the Service’s policies, standards, and procedures. Main Responsibilities Building Regulations Compliance : Review and assess building plans, specifications, and design proposals to ensure compliance with relevant building regulations and legislation. Provide technical advice and guidance to clients, architects, contractors, and other stakeholders. Site Inspections and Risk Assessments : Conduct regular on-site inspections at various stages of construction, ensuring adherence to approved plans, building codes, and safety standards. Identify potential hazards and non-compliance issues and recommend corrective actions. Project Management : Manage complex or high-profile building control projects from inception to completion, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with relevant standards. Liaise with clients and stakeholders to resolve issues that arise during construction. Team Leadership and Mentoring : Alongside the Team Leader, you will help mentor a team of building control surveyors, providing guidance, support, and professional development. Helping to oversee their work to ensure high standards are maintained, providing regular feedback and performance reviews. Quality Assurance and Reporting : Ensure all inspections and assessments are thoroughly documented and report on the progress of projects, identifying risks or delays. Prepare clear, concise reports and recommendations to ensure full compliance with regulations. Regulatory Updates and Continuing Education : Stay up-to-date with changes in building regulations, construction practices, and safety standards. Assist in ensuring all team members are informed about updates and changes that may impact their work. Stakeholder Liaison : Establish and maintain positive working relationships with external stakeholders, including local authorities, architects, contractors, and members of the public. Represent the Building Control team at meetings and hearings when required. Enforcement Action : When necessary, take appropriate enforcement action to address non-compliance with building regulations, including issuing notices, and providing support for legal proceedings or prosecutions. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate for the Senior Building Control Surveyor should have: Must be Class 2 A-F BSR registered and confidently operate at this level and ideally working towards Class 3 BSR Registration. Chartered Membership of RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors), CABE (Chartered Association of Building Engineers), or equivalent professional body. A degree in Building Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience). Extensive knowledge of building regulations and construction processes. Proven experience in building control or a related field, with a strong focus on compliance and safety. Strong communication and leadership skills, able to collaborate effectively with a range of stakeholders. A proactive approach to problem-solving with excellent attention to detail. Previous experience working in a local authority setting is desirable but not essential.
