We are seeking a talented Building Performance Engineer to join our Sustainability team, helping to shape the design of buildings to achieve net zero carbon targets, whilst still delivering a high-quality internal environment that promotes occupant wellbeing. Buro Happold’s sustainability team delivers fantastic projects, ranging from the BREEAM Outstanding, NABERS 5* Workship Square - through to the net zero “Terra – Sustainability Pavilion” in Dubai. You will have the opportunity to work on both new and existing buildings across a full range of typologies, both in the UK and internationally, including working with some of the world’s most prestigious architects. We are also active members of UK Green Building Council and World Green Building Council including advisory groups on Delivering Social Value, Circular Economy and Advancing Net Zero Renewables and Offsetting. Many staff globally are members of boards, organisations, and/or visiting lecturers at universities. Your next role will include the following: Energy modelling to inform architectural and building services design Advanced HVAC and building simulation to estimate operational energy Thermal comfort and daylight analysis Renewable energy systems Embodied/whole life carbon analysis Decarbonisation strategies for existing buildings Energy audits Presenting to clients and design teams Excellent written, graphical and verbal communication skills and a capable presenter. A team player with strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, who enjoys engaging with others to find innovative, practicable and deliverable solutions to complex problems. First principles understanding of passive design and low energy HVAC system design Demonstrable expertise in building simulation and the optimisation of building energy performance. Significant prior experience of ASHRAE 90.1 modelling is a must. Approachable and nurturing style with a desire to develop and mentor junior staff Passion for driving the Net Zero Carbon agenda within the built environment. Possess a minimum of 5 years of expertise in the field. Recognised engineering or other STEM based degree level qualification. Desired skills: Recognized professional qualification and chartership/membership of appropriate professional bodies (CIBSE, ASHRAE, IE / IMech E or similar). NABERS-UK Assessor. ASHRAE Building Energy Modeling Professional Certification Experience in energy audits, analysing system performance and energy data to enhance energy efficiency of building in use.
