Buyer (Cap Ex)

Port Talbot

£60K + Package

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Capital Expenditure (CapEx) Buyer to join our dynamic team working on a major Electrical Arc Furnace (EAF) project in Port Talbot. This pivotal role will be instrumental in supporting the procurement and supply chain processes required to deliver a state-of-the-art EAF, ensuring the project is completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.

As a CapEx Buyer, you will take ownership of sourcing, negotiating, and managing contracts for key equipment and services required for the EAF, liaising closely with internal stakeholders, vendors, and contractors to align with project specifications and timelines.

Key Responsibilities

Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers for specialized equipment, materials, and services required for the EAF. Prepare RFQs, manage tender processes, and ensure robust evaluation criteria are in place to select optimal suppliers. Negotiate pricing, terms, and conditions to secure cost-effective and high-quality agreements, while mitigating risks to the project. Work closely with engineering, project management, and finance teams to ensure procurement aligns with project milestones and technical requirements. Build and maintain strong partnerships with suppliers to ensure reliability, quality, and timely delivery of goods and services. Monitor and control CapEx spend, ensuring procurement activities remain within the allocated budget. Ensure all procurement activities comply with company policies, industry regulations, and environmental standards. Provide regular updates to project management on procurement progress, including potential risks, delays, or cost variations.

Qualifications and Skills Proven experience in CapEx procurement within heavy industry, manufacturing, or engineering projects. Strong knowledge of large-scale industrial equipment and systems, ideally including electrical arc furnaces or similar technologies. Excellent negotiation, communication, and supplier management skills. Strong commercial acumen with the ability to manage budgets and contracts effectively. Familiarity with relevant health, safety, and environmental standards. Proficiency in procurement systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

Desirable: CIPS qualification or equivalent. Experience with EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) contracts. Knowledge of steelmaking processes and equipment.
