The Senior Cardiac Physiologist will be working in the Echocardiography service. You will support the continued growth and development of the echocardiography and pacing service. The post holder will also support the Cardiology department in other cardiac investigations. Clinical duties will include performing resting Transthoracic Echo, Exercise stress and Dobutamine Stress echo, bubble and contrast echo, 12 Lead ECGs, Holter Monitoring and Analysis, Event Monitoring, Blood pressure Monitoring, Exercise Testing, routine pacemaker checks and Administrative duties. The successful candidate must independently write clinical reports for transthoracic echocardiography to a BSE standard. In addition, physiologist clinical reports will be provided following holter and ETT analysis. Located in leafy St John’s Wood on the Jubilee line, minutes from Central London, our luxury private Hospital has an international reputation for providing the highest quality of care to patients and is unique in that all profits fund our onsite Hospice, St John’s. What would be my responsibilities as a Senior Cardiac Physiologist?

To participate in cardiac investigations within own skill-base, and have working knowledge of all aspects of all services, including administrative duties. This will include performing tests and providing the reports. The post holder will be expected to act as an independent practitioner without direct supervision. Be aware of BSE, SCST and NICE guidelines and to carry out all procedures in accordance with these nationally agreed guidelines and policies of the department and hospital. To maintain expertise in “cardiac resuscitation procedures” in accordance with agreed and established policies. Responsible for safe use of complex cardiology testing equipment to ensure patient and personal safety. To implement quality controls and assurance in accordance with agreed standards. Cleaning the cardiology equipment in accordance with the hospital infection control policy on the cleaning of bio hazards. Perform the full complement of cardiology investigations without medical supervision and maintain awareness when a result requires further immediate follow up and act accordingly. Manage the pacemaker follow up lists conducting annual reviews, or advised in line with MHRA. Write technical reports for relevant investigations. Participate in the development and implementation of policies and protocols within the department of cardiology and in Echo related policies. Undertake research and clinical audit in conjunction with the physicians and manager. To assist the Cardiologist in theatres with DC cardioversions. Ensure that the standard of work is maintained to help the Hospital achieve an ‘Outstanding’ rating with the CQC. Am I the right person for this Senior Cardiac Physiologist role?

BSc in Clinical Physiology or equivalent. ALS (desirable) or ILS. RCCP registration (desirable). BSE or equivalent (desirable). Experience as independent practitioner in cardiology investigations. Able to independently perform and report Adult Transthoracic Echocardiograms. Experience in assisting with/performing Exercise and Dobutamine stress echocardiograms and bubble and contrast echocardiograms. 24 hour Holter analysis. Able to perform a wide range of non-invasive investigations independently. Understanding of cardiac procedures and techniques. Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing.
