About Us: Harley Haddow is a renowned engineering consultancy, dedicated to delivering high-quality Civil and Structural Engineering solutions. We are currently seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Civil Engineer to join our team. This role offers an excellent opportunity to lead projects, manage junior staff, and contribute to innovative engineering designs. Key Responsibilities: Project Management and Delivery: Lead and manage the Civil Engineering design on assigned projects. Maintain and improve the quality and efficiency of the department's design work. Supervise junior engineering staff, providing guidance and supporting their professional development. Client and Team Collaboration: Act as the lead consultant on projects, providing Civil representation and input at key stages. Ensure Civil requirements are communicated and delivered within Harley Haddow. Represent the company through direct contact with clients and other design team members. Technical Development: Develop Civil Engineering designs autonomously, with oversight from senior staff. Prepare sketches, diagrams, and drawings to communicate Civil engineering concepts. Attend internal and external reviews and meetings with clients and design team members. What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate: Experience in highway/road design, drainage strategy and knowledge of flood risk assessment, with a strong understanding of the development industry in Scotland and the UK. Experience in producing infrastructure masterplans, site appraisals, technical reports, design calculations, and construction drawings. Knowledge of relevant design standards such as Sewers for Scotland, Water UK Sewerage Sector Guidance, Designing Streets, and Local Authority Design Guidance, with experience in preparing drawings for contract documentation and technical approvals. Awareness of current and emerging technical and planning guidance related to climate change and sustainability. Experience liaising with clients, co-professionals, and design teams, and able to coordinate with highways/roads, water, statutory, and local authorities to secure the necessary technical approvals and statutory agreements for development projects. Knowledge of relevant processes, planning, design software, technical consents, adoption, and contract procedures related to sewers, SuDS, roads, for new developments and regeneration projects. Experience of liaising with Local Authorities to manage the Road Construction Consent (RCC) process for new developments. Coordination and Reporting: Liaise with other disciplines to coordinate designs. Prepare civil engineering reports with input from principal engineers. Prepare designs that consider and reduce hazards and risks. Conduct site visits during construction phases and report on findings. Quality Assurance: Ensure adherence to company quality, environment, and H&S accredited standards. Ensure all work is reviewed and approved by a Principal Engineer before documentation issuance. Assist with managing and distributing workload for early-career professionals, ensuring adherence to QA procedures. Software Proficiency: Utilise and develop understanding of necessary design software, including AutoCAD, Civil3d, Bluebeam, Revit, InfoDrainage/MicroDrainage, and MS Office. Develop the abilities of Graduate and Apprentice Engineers in using software packages. Performance Expectations: Work Profile: Scheme design project work: 30% Detailed design project work: 35% Post contract duties/meetings: 25% Learning and development: 5% General office duties: 5% Qualifications and Experience: Degree qualified (Bachelor’s/Master’s) in Civil Engineering (desirable). Working towards chartership with ICE or similar approved body. Demonstrated success in managing projects, delivery, and quality autonomously. Strong client-facing skills and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, technicians, and external parties. Capable of working with own initiative to provide solutions to engineering and management challenges. Right to work in the UK. Valid UK Driving Licence (advantageous but not required). Willingness to travel for meetings and projects, with occasional overnight stays. Benefits: 33 days holiday, including public holidays and time between Christmas and New Year.
