About the Opportunity

Amentum is currently recruiting for a Senior Civil Engineer to join our Nuclear Power and Engineering Technical Services (NPETS) business. NPETS is entering an exciting phase of opportunity by supporting our key client’s UK nuclear fleet through a business transformation, and by supporting new small modular reactor (SMR) developers. Our work is varied, covering New Build, Generation, Life Extension, and Defueling, and our capabilities are in demand across the nuclear sector.

Your role will be to support civil engineering teams and activities, delivering complex engineering solutions to time, cost and quality on projects of varying sizes. If you’re familiar with project delivery, you’ll know that they have plenty of moving parts and complexity, which is why you’ll be working alongside our Operations Managers and Engineering Managers.

Centre to the success of the role will be your people skills, building effective relationships and interacting with multiple internal and external stakeholders in multiple locations.

You’ll also work closely with colleagues to support activities that offer the best service to the client. Through your interactions, you’ll be able to gather useful intelligence on client needs and work with the team to deliver innovative solutions.

You’ll utilise your strong communication and engagement skills to achieve client, people and business outcomes, working with your team and peers that are based in different locations across the UK.

This role will be based at one of our NPETS offices (Newcastle, Warrington, Gloucester, Bristol or Knutsford). We put flexibility at the heart of what we do and we’re happy to consider flexible working patterns. Key responsibilities will be:

Take ownership of technical challenges, develop a strategy and implement the solution through engagement with internal and external stakeholders Lead people on projects to deliver positive outcomes for clients Guide and mentor others on technical tasks Receive, analyse and verify the consistency of input data Produce design deliverables (assumption notes, technical specifications and calculation notes, etc) Work with international SMR developers to pass through the Office of Nuclear Regulation’s Generic Design Assessment process Perform analysis and/or design tasks as necessary Oversight, verification and leadership for the preparation of Calculations, CDM activities, Basis of Design, Material Specifications, Scopes of Work, Technical Reports, Inter-discipline design coordination and supervision, technical verifications of civil engineering documents

Minimum Requirements:

MEng, MSc, BEng or BSc in Civil Engineering or other relevant degree level qualification, chartered or working towards chartership with relevant institution (e.g., ICE or IStructE) Ability to work within and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, taking a lead role for civil engineering topics Good understanding of structural theory, with proven problem-solving ability Good communication skills and ability to articulate information to a broad range of stakeholders Knowledge and previous experience in the design and/or construction of civil engineering solutions using Eurocodes (and ideally American codes) Reinforced concrete design experience, steel design experience and design experience in nuclear context (or similarly highly regulated context). Experience using finite element modelling software and associated post processing software, with experience in validation and verification of modelling tools and their outputs Understanding of the use of design tools within a BIM environment UK Nuclear Licensing and Generic Design Assessment process experience is desirable
