Based at Queens Hospital, Burton on Trent, we are appointing a Senior Clinical Fellow (ST4 level equivalent or above) within our Diabetes and Acute Medicine teams.
This will be a full-time, fixed-term service appointment to commence 10th December 2024 for 8 months . Applications for less than full-time working patterns are welcome. The post can be tailored to individual requirements but centres upon the provision of care to the Diabetes/Acute Medicine teams. There is scope to access opportunities that enable you to fulfil the 'alternative certificate' required for HST. Main duties of the job
The post holder will initially work in Diabetes until February 2025. After this, the remainder of the contract will be spent in Acute Medicine. Department of Diabetes
Provision of middle grade services to the Department of Diabetes and General Medicine across the wards To provide daily care and management of patients on respective wards Participation in out-patient clinics Administrative tasks for these services Leadership to junior staff Shared role in delivery of teaching and training Active participation in quality improvement, audit and research activities of these services Keeping up to date and participating in continuing professional development Participation in annual appraisals Acute Medicine Department
Provision of junior support to the Acute Medicine / Medical services. To provide daily care and management of Acute medical patients in Acute Medical Unit (AAC) and Short Stay Unit (SSU) and on call. Shared role in delivery of teaching & training to junior doctors & non-medical staff. Administrative tasks for these services Keeping up to date & participating in CME & CPD Participation in annual appraisals & job planning. To work flexibly across all areas within the AMBU where clinical need dictates i.e. ACC, MAU, Triage, ED In-Reach and SSU Wards. About us

Department of Diabetes:
The working week will be divided between performing ward rounds, attending outpatient clinics and attending to speciality referrals in Diabetes & Endocrinology, all under supervision of a consultant in Diabetes & Endocrinology. The post holder will do at least one diabetes ward round and one endocrine clinic a week. The department runs a number of specialist clinics such as foot, antenatal, pumps, renal, bariatric and adolescent transitional diabetes clinics which the post holder may be able to attend depending on their training needs, in the same way as the higher speciality trainees in post. The post holder will work 8 hours a day within Monday to Friday, rostered between 0900hrs and 1700hrs (option of 0800-1600 available). As part of a ward multi-disciplinary team, the Fellow will review patients and support consultant ward rounds to enable efficient senior decision-making and effective management of patients on their respective wards. In addition, there are daily board rounds with the opportunity to discuss the management of the ward patients with a senior clinician. The post holder will be attached to the Diabetes team. Your attendance of out-patient clinics will be with full consultant supervision. You will be expected to work as middle-grade doctors, seeing speciality referrals and leading your junior team with full consultant support. You will initially be based within the Department of Diabetes and work with consultants, training post and locally employed junior doctors, advanced care practitioners (ACPs), Therapists and Discharge Support Officers to deliver a responsive service to medical patients throughout the hospital. Your speciality team will give you consistent support and further learning opportunities. The out of hours commitment is 1:9 working nights and weekends (currently). There is consultant presence on site for the take 0800-2200 seven days a week. Overnight supervision by consultants is from home. Until 2400 each night there are three acute Medicine middle grades in the hospital. Numerous training opportunities are available in all teams and you will be actively encouraged to access these options throughout your post. Acute Medicine Department
The post holder will be expected to be part of the Medicine Middle Grade rota which is a full shift on-call rota including prospective cover for annual, study and bank holiday leave. A prospective cover allowance of approximately 2 hours per week is incorporated into the job plan. You will support the nursing team, other middle grade doctors, junior medical staff and the Consultant Physician on MAU/ACC. Key tasks of this role are: Provision of medical care to the SDEC/ACC & Acute Medicine services. Assessment and management of patients on SDEC/ACC. Active participation in Clinical Governance, audit & teaching activities. Administrative tasks for the services. Keeping up to date with guidelines, protocols and clinical skills. Participating in CME & CPD. Participation in annual appraisal & job planning. Working flexibly across SDEC and ACC. Applicants must also be eligible to work in the UK and have excellent skills in written and spoken English, adequate to enable highly effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues. All applicants must have Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practice at the time of submitting an application.
