The post holder will be responsible for delivering a range of radiographic activity including clinical procedures and image interpretation. A key aspect of the role will be to develop specialist skills in image guided injections. The post holder will undertake specialist reporting of orthopaedic examinations with the support of consultant colleagues with the aim to become fully independent in reporting in these examinations. In addition to clinical activity, the post holder will be expected to support audit including the monitoring and assurance of artificial intelligence technology.

Applications are invited for a Musculoskeletal Clinical Fellow - Radiology post to strengthen a team of nineteen Consultant radiologists and three Registrars at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust.

The role will require you to work across all areas in the Trust which includes those that are designated as positive, asymptomatic and negative COVID wards.

Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is a tertiary level provider of world-renowned trauma and orthopaedic care. Wrightington Hospital was instrumental in the development of the Charnley hip arthroplasty and associated novel orthopaedic surgical techniques which continue to innovate into the 21st century. Radiology provides an essential support service for patients experiencing rare and complex orthopaedic presentations using a wide range of imaging techniques to diagnose and assess the patient. The service has access to a range of modern MR and CT scanners in addition to dedicated ultrasound and general radiographic equipment. The service at Wrightington provides patients with image guided diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including arthrography, steroid and platelet rich plasma injection. Radiology works collaboratively across a wide multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals and has dedicated MDT meetings to guide and manage local and region level care for upper and lower limb disciplines. The Trust builds upon its strong heritage of innovation and development with opportunities for colleagues to be involved with clinical research and academia. The Trust is proactive at developing Artificial Intelligence solutions to improve radiological and orthopaedic care and seeks to engage colleagues in the audit and assurance of this rapidly developing area of medicine.

Fully independent in reporting MSK CT and MRI Fully independent in performing MSK Ultrasound including therapeutic injections and biopsies Fully independent in performing CT/MRI Arthrograms Fully independent in performing fluoroscopic-guided therapeutic injections Fully independent in chairing MDTs and informal clinico-radiological meetings Supervision of trainees’ MSK practice Supervision and support to other allied health professionals including Radiographers, Sonographers and Advanced Practitioners Full participation in local teaching and lecture programmes Full participation in audit and research
