The post holder will be based at the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary in Wigan. The junior medical staff on the wards are responsible for the care of Respiratory patients under the supervision of the specialty doctors and consultants in Respiratory Medicine. Patients are admitted via the emergency floor and cared for in the first instance by the admitting medical team. If the patient has a Respiratory condition, the patient will be transferred to one of the relevant beds on a Respiratory Ward.

This role is advertised as a fixed-term contract from October 2024 until August 2025 to cover maternity leave.

You will be required to participate in the on-call rota, including working nights. The role will require you to work across all areas in the Trust, which includes those that are designated as positive, asymptomatic, and negative COVID wards.

Key Responsibilities:

Review referrals to the service daily in liaison with Consultants. Assist in clinics as necessary, seeing both new and follow-up patients. Attendance at multidisciplinary team meetings. Ward rounds. Continuing professional development. Providing support during periods of absence of Consultants. Maintain good communication with all consultants and the multidisciplinary team. Work with FY1 and FY2 in the treatment of patients admitted, undertake and supervise medical procedures as requested. Ensure good communication with GPs and other agencies such as Palliative Care services. Participation in teaching and training activities for medical and other clinical staff. Teaching of junior medical staff, medical students, and nurses will be expected. The Trust encourages proposals for research projects. Any other duties appropriate to the grade.
