Full time
There are two, adjacent, Orthopaedic wards with 27 and 33 beds respectively; one ward is for elective surgery and the other for emergency admissions.

Outpatient sessions are conducted in the Orthopaedic/Fracture clinic suite that lies adjacent to the Accident and Emergency and Radiology departments. The department treats musculo-skeletal disorders and injuries in adults and children of all ages. We provide a trauma service, after initial assessment and resuscitation in the Accident and Emergency Department, for all patients who have sustained a recent injury.

The department has regular teaching sessions and is committed to further education to assist with your career progression. We have associated teaching hospital status with the University of Sheffield and strong links with the South Yorkshire Orthopaedic Training programme since the Education Training Programme Director works here.

In joining this Trauma and Orthopaedic Service at The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust, you will be working with a nationally acclaimed training unit which produces and retains some of the best trained and qualified Surgeons in the country.

As this is a Registrar post, at least a year's experience of T&O post-foundation training along with MRCS is essential.

Main duties of the job

To assist in the provisions of a Consultant-led trauma and orthopaedic service for in-patients, day cases, and out-patients, with continuing responsibility for the patients and their care and for the proper functioning of the department. To carry out teaching duties as required and, in particular, to take an active part in the education programme of junior medical staff. To provide an on-call emergency service, based on a 1:10 rota. Participate fully in audit and the implementation of Clinical Governance and CNST. Deputise for absent colleagues and offer advice and guidance in addition to overseeing the day-to-day management of the department. Be available for such irregular commitments outside normally rostered duties, as are essential for continuity of patient care. Ensure Trust Information Governance policy and best practice is followed (including confidentiality and data quality) to ensure data quality is maximised and confidentiality of information is maintained and applied to all data recorded, utilised and reported on.
