Are you a proven manager of collections or houses? Can you bring your conservation knowledge to this close knit team? We need someone who can champion fantastic collections care and practise, visitor welcome and the day to day operation of managing volunteers to give great experiences.
This is a fixed term contract. At this point we cannot confirm exactly how long this contract will last, but it is unlikely to be more than 1 year.What it's like to work here
The Hinton Group house teams covers different sites, and you will be working across Hinton Ampner and Uppark. It is rather an exciting time to join us. Uppark is in the middle of the Essential Project Work, and we are also working on different conservation, collections management projects while the work is happening. At Hinton Ampner you will be working on the reopening of the South Suite rooms to the public, collections management, and delivering our exciting 2025 programming to cite a few.
We’re an energetic team and we are passionate about what we do, and we work closely with other departments within the portfolio. You will report to the House & Collections Manager and support in delivering the House team objectives. The team consists of 3 House & Collections Officer, 1 House & Volunteer Officer and 3 Collections Assistants.
What you'll be doing
As the senior lead of the House Team, you’ll manage a team of Collections & House Officers, Collections Assistants and volunteers to implement preventive conservation and cleaning programmes in the house to ensure excellent standards of care, delivering strategies to improve conservation. You’ll be responsible for the planning and implementation of conservation projects, collections care and daily opening of the house ensuring appropriate resources are in place to provide a consistent and excellent visitor experience.
You'll collect and accurately record information to inform our understanding of the house and the collection and use preventive conservation techniques to improve how we conserve, interpret and present the property. Leading by example you’ll ensure a culture of excellent customer care, engaging our visitors with conservation and the values and behaviours of the National Trust.
Who we're looking for
- strong leadership skills and experience of working with and managing volunteers and staff
- operational experience of collections management and care in an historic environment including relevant collections management systems
- able to demonstrate a solid understanding of preventive conservation and its practical, strategic application in the form of routine and deep cleaning programmes
- knowledge of Health and Safety and Emergency Procedures
- strong organisational skills, with strong attention to detail
- successful experience of people management and delivering through others
