Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Department The EHS team is responsible for collaborating with Design and Engineering, Construction, Operations, Legal, Procurement Contractors, Vendors, and various regulatory agencies to ensure the health, safety, and environmental risks of the company are protected and that everyone enjoys a safe and healthful workplace. Position Description The Senior Director of EHS for EMEA will oversee the strategic direction and operational execution of the Environmental Health and Safety programs across our regional facilities. This role will serve as a key liaison between the EHS Directors and regional C-level executives, ensuring alignment with corporate safety goals and fostering a culture of safety excellence. You will be responsible for improving the health and safety of our data centers, advancing safety culture, collaborating with our customers, and protecting our employees. You will work closely with experts in security, construction, operations, logistics, compliance, engineering, corporate counsel, 3rd party consultants, and human resources to further the regional and global EHS program. This position is pivotal to ensuring that we lead the industry in this area with particular emphasis on executing and reporting on all EH&S areas within the business. You will supervise a variety of direct reports that are part of our full-time Vantage EHS team as well as a variety of safety consultants that report directly into the EHS organization. The role requires autonomy and will be responsible for implementing and monitoring processes that include: Electrical Safety (Energized Electrical Work, Arc Flash, NPFA 70E, etc.) Construction activities in operational environments Control of Hazardous Energy (Lockout/Tagout) Occupational Noise Exposure & Control Heat Stress & Illness Prevention Exposure Assessment (Industrial Hygiene) Emergency Response Planning Working at Heights Confined Space Entry Heavy Material Handling Powered Industrial Trucks (Forklifts) Construction-Related Risks (Cranes/Rigging, Trenching/Shoring, Mobile Elevated Work Platforms (MEWPs), etc.) Fire/Life Safety Hazardous Substances Handling Waste Management Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures (SPCC) Risk Assessment and Mitigation methodology 3rd Party Safety Supplier Management Collaborative Planning Incident investigations and associated methodology Essential Job Functions Leadership & Strategy: Lead and mentor EHS Directors across operational and construction activities, ensuring a unified approach to health and safety across the region. Collaboration: Work closely with regional Presidents and Vice Presidents to integrate EHS strategies into business objectives, influencing decision-making at the executive level. Program Development: Develop and implement comprehensive EHS programs that exceed regulatory requirements and align with corporate standards. Performance Metrics: Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for EHS initiatives, presenting findings and recommendations to senior leadership. Risk Management: Identify and assess EHS risks across all operational facilities, implementing effective mitigation strategies. Culture Building: Foster a proactive safety culture by promoting engagement and accountability among all employees and stakeholders. Compliance Oversight: Ensure compliance with local, regional, and international EHS regulations, conducting regular audits and assessments. Incident Management: Oversee incident investigations and root cause analyses, ensuring corrective actions are implemented and communicated effectively. Training & Development: Champion EHS training programs to enhance employee awareness and competency in safety practices. Stakeholder Engagement Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including employees, customers, regulatory agencies, and industry partners. Communication: Facilitate open lines of communication to ensure stakeholders are informed about EHS initiatives, performance metrics, and compliance status. Collaboration: Engage with stakeholders to gather feedback and insights, fostering a collaborative approach to enhance safety practices and drive continuous improvement. Advocacy: Represent the EHS function in regional meetings and forums, advocating for safety priorities and aligning EHS goals with broader business objectives. Essential Qualifications Experience: Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in EHS management, with a strong background in data centers or mission-critical environments. Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead and influence teams, with experience managing multiple direct reports. Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth understanding of EHS regulations and standards applicable in the EMEA region. Communication Skills: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly to diverse audiences. Strategic Thinking: Strong business acumen with the ability to align EHS initiatives with organizational goals. Preferred Qualifications Advanced degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health, Safety Management, or a related field. Professional certifications (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH) are highly desirable.
