Redefine Your Role in Ecology – Lead, Inspire, and Create Impact

Are you an experienced ecologist ready for the next challenge? This opportunity is more than just a job—it’s a chance to lead, mentor, and make a lasting impact in the field of ornithology and beyond.

The Company

  • A Consultancy That Cares: This isn’t just another environmental consultancy. Our client is a well-regarded, forward-thinking firm that truly values its people. With one of the highest staff retention rates in the industry, they create an environment where employees thrive and grow.
  • Be Part of a Like-Minded Team: Join a collaborative, high-performing group that’s passionate about innovation, community, and making a positive impact. Your voice matters here.

The Opportunity

You’ll join a forward-thinking team with a passion for ecological innovation and sustainability. Your role will involve leading ecological surveys, including Preliminary Ecology Appraisals, Ecological Impact Assessments, and Habitat Regulations Assessments. You’ll design mitigation strategies and provide expert advice on ornithology and bird surveys across diverse projects.

Expect variety—no two days are the same. You’ll collaborate with clients and colleagues across disciplines, adapting to the challenges of the natural world. The pace is fast, but there’s always time to reflect and learn.

The Role

As a Senior Ecologist, you’ll:

  • Lead ecological surveys and assessments, with a focus on ornithology.
  • Manage projects from scoping to completion, ensuring successful outcomes.
  • Develop strong client relationships and secure new opportunities to grow your portfolio.
  • Mentor junior ecologists, fostering their professional development.

Essential Skills and Experience

We’re looking for someone with:

  • A degree in ecology, biological sciences, or a related field.
  • Membership with CIEEM, ideally working towards Chartership.
  • Specialism in ornithology, with experience in breeding and non-breeding bird surveys.
  • Proficiency in Habitat Regulations Assessments and designing mitigation strategies.
  • Strong knowledge of UK ecology legislation and planning policies.
  • Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
  • Proven project management experience, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • A full UK driving licence.

On Offer

  • Flexible Working Arrangements: Enjoy a hybrid remote setup that fits your lifestyle.
  • Supportive Environment: Access to mentors, training, and professional development opportunities.
  • Health and Wellbeing: Benefit from life insurance, mental health support, and remote GP services.
  • Professional Growth: Covering your professional memberships and supporting your journey towards CIEEM and Chartership.
  • Transparent Communication: Believing in fairness and openness, reflected in the pay structure and company culture.
