Full time, permanent Astell Associates has been established near Aberdeen, Scotland, since 1974. We are arboricultural and ecological consultants, and have been involved in hundreds of projects all over Scotland for a wide range of clients. We undertake tree surveys and advise on tree management, and carry out ecological surveys including bat surveys, habitat surveys and protected species surveys. A large part of our work is enabling construction to take place in a way that will mitigate the consequences of development in ecologically sensitive areas, and improving the built environment. Many ecologists find this kind of work challenging as it may conflict with their ideals. It requires a pragmatic, problem-solving approach and good communication with clients to achieve the best solutions possible for all the parties involved. Position: Senior Ecologist

We are recruiting a Senior Ecologist with a degree in ecology or a closely related field, and experience managing ecology-related projects. Additional training will be provided, but you should be able to undertake project work and surveys independently, and oversee a small team of ecologists. Responsibilities:

Undertake a range of arboricultural, habitat and protected species surveys (Phase 1 & Phase 2) in accordance with best practice guidelines. Demonstrate knowledge of UK and Scottish nature conservation legislation and Scottish planning policy. Hold survey licences for at least one protected species and be willing to work towards gaining further licences. Produce and review technical ecological reports. Utilize mapping software tools such as QGIS, ArcGIS and AutoCAD. Exhibit excellent communication skills, liaising directly with clients, local planning authorities, sub-contractors, as well as NatureScot and other conservation bodies. Drive and be willing to work flexible hours, particularly during the busy summer bat survey season. In return, we offer:

A competitive salary Full-time hours, working from our office in Maryculter A flexible TOIL scheme CPD through internal and external training Payment of professional membership fees Mileage and sustenance expenses for survey work We hope you will be interested in this exciting opportunity to work with a small team of experienced individuals who share your passion and enthusiasm for protecting and caring for our ecology. Please send your CV to admin@astellassociates.co.uk or call Liz Petchell on 01224 734372 with any queries.
