Bowland Ecology is a well-established and thriving ecological consultancy. Due to continued growth, we are seeking to appoint a Senior Ecologist to our friendly and supportive team. The role will be based at our modern offices in central Glasgow with the option to also work from home. The successful candidate must have the flexibility to travel throughout Scotland as required.

Scope of role:
Manage own projects (including tenders/fee proposals and client liaison)
Plan, coordinate and undertake habitat and protected species surveys
Production of ecology reports, desk studies and plans, and data input, management and analysis
Design and implementation of simple ecological mitigation schemes
Pre-works inspections and site supervision of ecological/environmental mitigation (ECoW/EnvCoW)
Supervision of junior staff
Contribution to development of the business
Successful Candidates will have:
Membership of CIEEM or equivalent
Technical expertise in ecology including habitat surveying
A good working knowledge of the Scottish regulatory framework for wildlife/protected species issues
Excellent communication, team working project and time management skills
‘Hands on’ approach, initiative and self-motivation
Ability to work without direct supervision
Ability to write clear and concise reports
Current and full driving licence
Enthusiasm, confidence and a passion for Ecology
Experience of working within an Ecological Consultancy

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
A strong undergraduate degree in Ecology, Zoology, Botany, Biology, Environmental Science (with an Ecology focus) or similar/equivalent (E)
At least 3 years post graduate experience of working in a professional ecological consultancy including management of projects(E)
Membership of CIEEM or working towards (E)
Good working knowledge of MS Office and QGIS (E)
Ability to produce high quality technical reports with an eye for detail. Experience in drafting and critically reviewing ecological reports including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, Ecological Impact assessments, Mitigation Enhancement plans and Method Statements (E)
Up to date with legislative, technological and other industry developments (E)
Experience of delivering Biodiversity Net Gain (D)
Experience of working closely with regulatory authorities and various stakeholders (D)
Experience of producing quotes and contributing to tender applications (D)
