THE OPPORTUNITY We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to join our team, supporting a key customer on an innovative project in Fire Control Systems for Short and Medium calibre guns. This role offers the opportunity to work on a cutting-edge system, progressing from a conceptual stage to a functional technology demonstrator within 12 months. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in designing and developing advanced electrical and electronic systems, working collaboratively across disciplines to deliver a high-performance solution. The position requires expertise in systems engineering, electrical design, and project lifecycle management using JIRA and Confluence.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Concept Development: Contribute to the whiteboard development of system concepts and designs, ensuring technical feasibility and alignment with project goals. Electrical System Design: Lead the design and development of electrical systems, including power distribution, PCB design, wiring, and interfacing with other subsystems. Integration & Testing: Oversee the integration of electrical components and systems, ensuring seamless operation. Perform rigorous testing and debugging to meet performance and reliability standards. Collaboration: Work closely with mechanical, software, and systems engineering teams to ensure cohesive system development and integration. Documentation: Create detailed design documentation, schematics, and test plans to support development and certification activities. Project Management: Utilise JIRA and Confluence to track project progress, manage tasks, and document critical insights throughout the development lifecycle.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

Education:

Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a related field. Experience: o Proven experience in electrical and electronic design, particularly in defence or related industries. o Hands-on experience with Fire Control Systems or similar technologies is highly desirable. o Proficiency in tools such as Altium, OrCAD, or similar for PCB design. Technical Skills: o Strong knowledge of power systems, signal processing, and electronic circuit design. o Familiarity with industry standards for defence and safety-critical systems. Tools & Methodologies: o Expertise in using JIRA and Confluence for task management and collaboration. o Familiarity with simulation tools for design validation. Soft Skills: o Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. o Strong problem-solving capabilities and a proactive approach to challenges. o Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment. Desirable Qualifications & Skills: • Knowledge of military standards (e.g., MIL-STD-810, DEF-STAN). • Experience in high-power systems or electromechanical actuators. • Familiarity with embedded systems and software integration.
