The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will work within the Mechanical Design Engineering team at EATON Wimborne. Design Engineering team are responsible for the development of mechanical designs and production of drawings across all product lines as MSD Wimborne. Design Engineers are allocated to projects as required and the role offers the opportunity to work on a wide variety of products. The role encompasses all aspects of the product lifecycle from support to bids, development of system requirements, concept design through to issue of production standard drawings. The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will also provide support to production concessions and in service issues where applicable. Produce concept designs for new products or product modifications to meet customer requirements whilst working to agreed timescales and within agreed budgets. Complete stress, performance and tolerancing calculations in support of the designs. Use Design for Six Sigma tools and Design for Manufacture tools to optimise concept design / modifications. Present design solutions to peers and customers. Support supply chain by interpreting and responding to suppliers technical inquiries relating to designs during the manufacture. Sentencing concession and drawing change applications and presenting the assessment to material and change review boards. Provide status updates and participate in design / project team meetings. Report technical progress to Engineering and Programmes team leaders. Help ensure compliance of design to specification requirements and following the Life Cycle Management Process. Ensure compliance of drawings to EATON design and configuration control processes. Management of outsource activities and resource management utilizing Eaton project management tools if applicable. Technical management and/or mentoring of junior design engineering. Process and procedure development in support of continual improvement philosophy. Qualifications:

Engineering degree, Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, or equivalent experience. Minimum of 5 years in an Engineering Design & Development organisation; ideally has experience within Aerospace. Skills:



Demonstrated technical skills leading a design aspect of a project, experience with design processes managing multiple technical project deliverables. •

Good technical and analytical (Fluid Dynamic, Stress, Electrical …) knowledge base with the ability to understand and generate analysis. •

Experience in a relevant professional engineering environment ideally gained in the aerospace or equivalent high technology industry. •

Experience writing Statements of Work for subcontract services and managing remote workers. •

Experience in New Product Introduction of aerospace products. •

Experience with electrical and mechanical product design and qualification. •

Experience with CAD packages such as CREO, Catia or Solidworks. •

Experience working with Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T). •

Experience with Six-Sigma quality tools. •

Experience working with data management systems (PLM). •

Strong verbal and written communication skills. •

Strong report writing skills. •

Knowledge or strong interest in aerospace system technology. •

Good problem solving skills. •

Strong organizational skills. •

Authority to work in the UK and within the US ITAR legislation. •

Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication presentation skills and the ability to work well with customers and development team members. •

Train and develop engineers. The successful applicant will be in contact with US ITAR controlled technology, goods and information.
