We are Rolls-Royce SMR and we’re doing something that’s never been done before. We’re revolutionising an industry. That’s a once-in-a-career opportunity for those excited by such a challenge. This is more than just a job; this is a legacy. We are now recruiting for the exciting role of Senior Engineer - Severe Accident Analysis, to be involved in an industry-leading, cutting-edge design project for a new type of power station. Role Purpose The Senior Engineer for Severe Accident Analysis will be responsible for technical assessments of accident scenarios under Design Extension Conditions for the RR SMR. Assessments of the reactor core, reactor coolant system, and containment response will be performed for unlikely events such as Loss of Coolant Accidents, Intact Circuit Faults, Bypass/Secondary Faults, and Shutdown Faults leading to degradation of the core. Such scenarios require the assessment of complicated thermal-hydraulic phenomena involving the physical degradation of core materials, production of combustible gases, release of steam and combustible gases within the containment structure, and conditions that could challenge the integrity of safety systems. Therefore, assessments will allow optimisation of safety system design and substantiation of safety claims for accident scenarios. The Engineer will be responsible for developing assessment methods, progressing analysis tasks, and engaging with multiple technical and non-technical disciplines to support the delivery of the planned milestones in the Generic Design Assessment (GDA) process for the Severe Accident Analysis Topic. To meet these milestones, the Engineer will take responsibility for following the RR SMR Gated Review (GR) process and ensuring task deliverables are completed to a high standard, adhering to quality procedures. As a Senior Engineer for Severe Accident Analysis, you will be expected to perform the following: Effectively plan tasks, providing programmes of work, and identifying risks to ensure tasks are completed and meet their identified requirements. Apply knowledge of thermal-hydraulic phenomena and numerical methods to develop models representing the RR SMR during Design Extension Conditions. Interrogate analysis outputs and present the key outcomes to a wide range of stakeholders, to ensure completion of the RR SMR Gated Review process. Produce technical reports to a high standard, clearly detailing analysis processes and outcomes, supporting substantiation of the design and safety claims. Work as part of a growing team, sharing skills and supporting the development of analysis methods across the team, including fulfilling a technical checker role for analysis tasks and producing quality evidence. Work with due regard to Health, Safety, and Environment. Comply with corporate, business, and legislative requirements. Champion company values, including Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Confidence can sometimes hold us back from applying for a job. But we'll let you in on a secret: there's no such thing as a 'perfect' candidate. If you feel you meet 75% of the requirements for this role, we would love to hear from you.
