Job Title: Senior Engineer- Thermal Systems
Location: Sunbury on Thames, SRY, GB, TW16 7EF Business Unit: Air Technology Posting Date: Jan 27, 2025 Job Description: Scope of Role: Senior Engineer for Thermal Systems. Involved in full product development lifecycle including major product development contracts, bids/proposals, R&D activities and legacy production support. The role includes thermal control equipment/systems design and performance modelling, design verification and full lifecycle development within a gated review New Product Introduction environment. This position suits an individual who has a good balance between academic/analytical capabilities and exposure to physical hardware. Main Duties/Responsibilities: Leading the full lifecycle development of thermal control equipment/systems. Responsible for design validation and verification as applied to equipment or systems. Detailed design and analysis for new fan designs, passive and active cooling systems (vapor cycle refrigeration system), including cooling system/component design and analysis using computational methods and manual calculations. Support the preparation of technical proposals, costings and associated documentation to support business development. Providing technical support to the sales teams in order to secure new work. Other Responsibilities/Non-essential Functions: Undertake training that is identified as a requirement of the role as identified by the role Manager. Undertake all other reasonable requests that are made by the role manager/acting manager or Directors. At times of reduced department staff attendance there will be a need to be flexible and provide support outside of the normal tasks of the job to ensure customer satisfaction. On occasion, you may be required to take on ad hoc duties which includes, but is not limited to training, department associated tasks and brief secondment to other departments. Professional Knowledge & Experience: Experience with the bidding/development of thermal systems equipment. Able to develop equipment or systems within the constraints of a highly regulated industry and in consideration of technical/commercial requirements; designing to cost, having a right first time approach and balancing the engineering and programme needs of the customer. Have experience of a high integrity design and manufacturing environment (Aero, Defence, Rail, Nuclear). A sound understanding of mechanical design principles, requirements-based engineering, requirements elicitation, validation and verification of designs at equipment and system level. Experience of Active and Passive Cooling system design and analysis. Working knowledge of materials and selection. Able to communicate and influence at all levels of the hierarchy through presentations, verbally and written, especially directed at customer interaction. Project engineering / project management experience in an NPI environment.
