This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly regarded and forward-thinking finance team. You will be a key individual in providing dedicated financial support to the Council's Children Services Directorate. Following significant investment, the Children Services Directorate is embarking on a significant transformation programme including the implementation of a Family Safeguarding Model. As part of a business partnering approach, your role will be key in providing the support required to ensure the delivery of a financially sustainable position.

You will have knowledge of the challenges facing local government finance and have experience of assisting with the delivery of key transformation. You will be able to present relevant financial information to enable effective, informed decision making. You will have excellent interpersonal skills to work with key stakeholders at various levels, and the ability to work independently to tight timescales. You will be a highly motivated team player that can display the Team Wigan behaviours: positive, accountable, courageous, and kind.

Wigan Council has been voted 'Overall Council of the Year' at the APSE (Association for Public Service Excellence) Awards. We are signed up to the Greater Manchester Continuous Service Commitment ensuring that your service will be continuous or 'unbroken' between the supporting organisations.

The Progress with Unity plan is a place movement for change for the next decade, bringing a new era for Wigan Borough. It draws on the strengths of our individual organisations, recognising that together we can achieve much more for our communities by delivering on our two place missions: create fair opportunities for all children, families, residents and businesses, and make our towns and neighbourhoods flourish for those who live and work in them.

Wigan Council is an amazing place to work with a culture that fosters positivity, courage, accountability and kindness, rooted in an asset-based way of working that makes a difference for our residents. We are at an incredibly exciting time here in Wigan as we embark on a bold New Era with our residents, communities and businesses. This is set out in our Progress with Unity plan.
