Sheffield is a city on the rise, aiming to be the best place to live, work, and grow. Our 2024-28 plan sets a clear vision for our city's future. Together, we get things done. About the Role:

As a Senior Finance Manager, you'll be a key link between Finance and Council Services, driving the delivery of quality financial information to support our city's ambitions. You'll lead a large finance team, ensuring accurate monthly management accounting and forecasting, and communicate financial performance to stakeholders. Key Responsibilities: Lead a finance team of twenty staff in the service accounting team with four direct reports to produce accurate monthly management accounts and forecasts. Communicate financial performance to Directors, Business Leaders, Committees, and Elected Members. Enhance reporting processes and implement improved management information and KPIs. Provide comprehensive financial support across the organisation. Offer guidance on maximising resources and understanding service budgets. Maintain and improve internal control standards, processes, and procedures. What We’re Looking For: Highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals. Full CCAB/CIMA qualification. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to inspire confidence among stakeholders. Experience in staff management and large, complex accounting environments. Proven technical accounting skills, including forecasting, budgeting, and planning. Strong leadership and teamwork abilities. High levels of personal effectiveness, particularly in coordination and organisation. Benefits: Flexible working arrangements and hybrid working approach. Flexitime scheme. 26 days annual leave for full-time employees. Contributions to the Local Government Pension Scheme. Access to our comprehensive Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) and wellbeing benefits, including counselling services. Salary sacrifice offers for childcare, cycle schemes, and electric car benefits. Now, more than ever, public servants in local government are crucial. In these challenging times, every penny counts. By ensuring the efficient delivery of essential services and maximising value for money, finance professionals make a real difference in the lives of Sheffield residents. We are investing in our workforce and are promoting opportunities to our under-represented groups. We value equality, diversity and inclusion and are focused on increasing the diversity of our workforce, particularly the number of Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic, Disabled and LGBTQ+ people, so that our teams reflect the communities in the city we serve. We are also supporting staff with unpaid caring responsibilities to work flexibly. It is a great time to join us and we welcome your application. Under the Disability Confident Scheme, disabled applicants, who meet the essential criteria of this job, are guaranteed an interview. Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement. We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities which benefit you and the Council, including reduced hour contracts, working part time or as a job share. If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
