E & M Talent Partners are currently supporting a large Academy Trust in South Yorkshire who are looking to appoint a senior member of the finance function to undertake the role of financial lead. Reporting directly into the Chief Financial Officer, you will be at the centre of the financial strategy with oversight of all the schools within your dedicated region.
This is an autonomous role with full financial control of your regional schools, but you will collaborate with the wider team to drive improvement.
Experience within a multi–academy setting would be advantageous but not essential. You will be commercially astute, with a wealth of all-round Management Accounting experience including Budgeting, Forecasts, Analysis, Month End/Year end, Financial Accounts, and Audit.
Providing Headteachers with insightful financial analysis, guiding them in budget setting, and producing accurate reports will be an imperative part of the role. You will need to work with the local authority in understanding High Needs funding methods and the impact of the Department for Education statutory guidance.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare budgets with assumptions and risks
Monitor budgets and update forecasts
Monthly reporting with commentaries
Support day-to-day decision-making from a financial point of view
Regular analysis into spend, efficiencies, and financial modelling to support business cases
Annual accounts, returns, year-end accruals/pre-payment adjustments
Business partnering
Internal and external audit
In order to be shortlisted for this role, you must be qualified or able to demonstrate that you are qualified by significant experience.
Strong Excel skills are absolutely essential. Strong communication skills are imperative, as is the ability to appropriately convey financial information to non-finance professionals across the school system.
