Senior Financial Accountant

Full time
Your new company You will be working with this fantastic not-for-profit organisation whose ethos is to improve society at large. The organisation takes a person-centred approach and has a strong ethos of partnership and collaboration. The organisation is based in easy reach of Edinburgh City Centre and offers flexible / hybrid working. The busy finance team has an opportunity for a financial accountant to join them on a permanent basis. They are looking for a commercially minded candidate to join the team, who can help with process improvement and driving accountability within the team.

Your new role Within this varied role, you will help the team deliver reliable and meaningful management information to stakeholders across the organisation, ensure appropriate internal financial controls are in place and operating effectively, and ensure financial transactions are processed accurately and on time, in line with relevant accounting standards and legislation. You will also ensure effective support and advice is provided to key stakeholders.

Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Senior Financial Accountant will be responsible for the financial accounting, financial control, and statutory reporting of the organisation. The post-holder will be required to manage the organisation's financial accounting and external financial reporting. This post holder will be responsible for preparing the annual statutory accounts, liaising with external auditors, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations, and maintaining internal policies.

The post-holder will oversee the effective running of the Finance Office, a team of six, which is responsible for operational finance activities including accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit control, and the sales ledger. The Senior Financial Accountant will also provide technical support and guidance to the Finance Office team, enhancing the analytical support provided to the rest of the organisation. The organisation implemented a new finance system this financial year, and the postholder will be a key stakeholder as the organisation looks to develop financial reporting and analysis.

What you'll need to succeed You will be a qualified accountant (CA/ACCA/CIMA) with previous experience in a similar role. You will also have good time management skills to ensure internal and external deadlines are met, a proven ability to work well under pressure, and manage a complex workload with competing priorities.

You will have the ability to work cooperatively as part of a team but also independently, with minimal supervision using your own initiative. You will possess good interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues at all levels within the organisation and external organisations, respond to complex queries in a clear and comprehensive manner, and explain financial issues to non-financial managers. You will have an enthusiastic, enabling, and proactive approach to work, be flexible and responsive to changing priorities, and have a strong customer focus with a high regard for quality service delivery.

What you'll get in return You will receive a competitive salary and excellent benefits, such as a local government pension and 31 days + bank holidays annual leave. Working 2/3 days in the office each week, you will help drive improvements within the team and be given autonomy to thrive within the role. The organisation has a real appetite to evolve, and this is an exciting time to join the team.
