The Trevor Gibbens Unit is a medium secure inpatient service for forensic services serving the community of Kent and Medway. We specialise in the rehabilitation and treatment of males & females with complex mental health needs, who require care in a medium secure setting, in response to offending, risky and/or challenging behaviours. This can be a challenging, yet rewarding environment and requires excellent organisation skills and the ability to use your initiative. The Healthcare Worker is a key member of the multidisciplinary care team and will have continuing responsibility as follows: Under limited supervision from a senior associate worker, qualified nurse, occupational therapist or the nurse in charge, deliver an effective and competent level of care, which is determined by the patients care plan. Main duties of the job
Support the work of the multidisciplinary team. Consistently deliver a patient focused service, which promotes optimum independence. Offer appropriate support and advice to the patients. Record accurately all care given as required. Enable patients to maintain and improve their independence by promoting active involvement in the therapeutic activity programme. Note and report accurately any care given and/or information required by the nurse in charge. Provide physical care as required or instructed. Promote patient’s appearance and personal hygiene by offering support/advice in self-care and ensuring that suitable toiletries are available. Promote a healthy, safe and secure environment by adhering to Trust statutory health and safety requirements and maintain confidentiality of information at all times in compliance with the Trust Policies. Assist patients to maintain a clean and healthy ward environment and assist them in all aspects of daily living skills as required. Person specification
Experience
Experience of working within Mental Health/Learning Disabilities setting. NHS Experience. Forensic experience. Knowledge and Skills
Good understanding of mental health conditions appropriate to the setting. Numeracy and Literacy Skills. Able to communicate effectively with a wide range of people. Training and Qualifications
Health or Social Care Qualification (Level 3 or equivalent). Computer Literate. Your employer pays 20.6% towards your pension and life assurance benefits. 27 days for full time or pro rata if part time. After 5 years NHS service: 29 days full time or pro rata if part time. After 10 years NHS service: 33 days full time or pro rata if part time. Plus bank holidays, that’s up to 41 days - more than 8 weeks paid time off! Medical staff have national Terms and Conditions. Buying and selling of annual leave is also available as part of our flexible approach to staff benefits. KMPT is committed to supporting all new staff with a comprehensive Induction programme.
