Family friendly leave policies / Group wide career opportunities Milestone Infrastructure is currently looking to recruit a Senior Highways & Drainage Design Engineer to work on our Central Bedfordshire Highways contract in Dunstable. As a Senior Highways & Drainage Design Engineer, you will be part of our Highways Design Team responsible for developing and delivering a wide range of highway and transport infrastructure projects that improve the way people move around Central Bedfordshire. Your role will be to deliver the Integrated Transport programme for the delivery of new roads and highway improvements for Central Bedfordshire Highways. The Central Bedfordshire Highways contract commenced in 2023 with a term of 7 years, with the potential for a further 3 years extension. The contract covers Highways term maintenance activities as well as design and construction services, with a turnover in excess of £20m per annum. As a Senior Highways and Drainage Design Engineer, your duties & responsibilities will include: Delivering the Highways Integrated Transport programme against the annual plan Leading the development of designs for a wide range of highway improvement, drainage, and traffic engineering schemes located in both urban and rural settings Working closely with project managers, commercial, and construction teams to plan and implement these schemes from ‘start to finish’ within budget and to programme, while complying with quality, safety, and environmental objectives Consulting with a range of internal and external stakeholders at all stages of scheme development Ensuring that relevant standards are applied in accordance with national & local criteria and sound engineering practice to deliver appropriate solutions that offer best value Assisting in the mentoring of trainee and graduate engineers Skills & Knowledge Requirements Track record of delivering highways, drainage, and transport design projects in a senior engineer capacity Working knowledge of Design Manual for Roads and Bridges, Specification for Highway Works, Local Transport Notes (particularly LTN 1/20 and active travel experience), and other industry standards Experience in the design & delivery of highway infrastructure projects using BIM/Digital Engineering software, systems, and data, along with working experience with software packages including AutoCAD, Civil3D, Autotrack, and Microdrainage Site-based highways experience to provide sufficient understanding of buildability, traffic management, and construction programming (desirable) A relevant Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent, or Foundation Degree/HNC/HND with sufficient post-qualification experience Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status of the Institution of Civil Engineers or equivalent professional body Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to articulate technical information to non-specialists, and the ability to problem solve and find practical solutions through creativity and innovative thinking This excellent opportunity offers the chance to work with an organisation leading the way in reducing carbon emissions, driving a circular economy approach, and increasing biodiversity.
