Under the umbrella of the Land Academy, and as appropriate to the chartership route taken, candidates will choose a mentor, have regular meetings with their mentor, and be able to access training, be this internal training or external events. A little more about your role… Identification of landowners, occupiers and other parties that hold a legal interest in land, through interpretation and research of Land Registry Titles as well as engagement with landowners. Contribute to the land services delivery and success of high-profile infrastructure projects within the UK and Ireland business. Your work will support our teams in the delivery of land access, landowner engagement, optioneering and statutory processes (CPO, GVD, DCO, and Hybrid Bills). YOUR TEAM Our Birmingham Land Team is currently 30 strong and made up of land consultants, property specialists, and utility and topographical surveyors working across projects throughout the UK and Ireland. We work closely with our 250 Land colleagues across the UK and Ireland delivering land services on a variety of projects across the energy, water, road, rail and active-travel sectors. We are the largest Land Referencing business in the UK, having delivered high profile projects such as the Hynet, Heathrow, Thames Tideway, HS2 and many more! We work locally, making a difference to the Midlands regional projects, but also nationally with other WSP teams, using in-house land information and consultation databases alongside GIS systems, with a focus on innovation and quality. We actively support people in achieving professional accreditations and have Chartered Geographers (CGeog), Chartered Town Planners (RTPI) and Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) who can support your career progression. We have various clients in the Transport, Energy, Rail and Local Authority Sectors. This role will report to a senior member of the Land Team for WSP in Birmingham. We are flexible with the role location and can combine this with home working in a hybrid role. What we will be looking for you to demonstrate… Demonstrable experience of Land Referencing and/or land acquisition processes, including researching and identifying landowners/occupiers, land interests and rights. Working knowledge of searching Land Registry Titles and Land plans. Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering land and engagement solutions in a front facing role for clients. A degree in Geography (or a relevant discipline) or relevant technical experience. Detailed knowledge and experience of UK statutory consents requirements, such as a hybrid Bill, TWAO, DCO, CPO, and/or Vesting Order as well as an understanding of the land and property industry. Excellent communication and organisational skills and ability to liaise at all levels with both internal and external stakeholders. Experience of training, mentoring or transferring technical knowledge to junior colleagues and the ability to undertake technical assurance of other colleagues’ work. Drive and enthusiasm to create strong technical work. Strong commercial awareness with an understanding of budget, scope, change control and other project management activities. Excellent written/verbal communication skills with the ability to comfortably liaise with clients. A full drivers’ licence would be advantageous.
