Job Description
Element Six is hiring a Senior Laser Engineer to work as part of the team at the Global Innovation Centre (GIC) based in Harwell, Oxfordshire. The successful candidate will be responsible for all laser-based activities related to designing and delivering novel laser processes for new products as well as supporting existing product lines. We are looking for an individual who is creative and motivated, able to deliver on challenging objectives and a keen collaborator to work with our material scientists, production and operation teams. The role is a permanent position and will be supported with opportunities for personal growth and career development. Duties and tasks
Subject Matter Expertise:
Become the go-to expert for all laser processing activities, ensuring comprehensive knowledge and proficiency, including leading process transfers. Process Development:
Innovate and develop new processes to enhance efficiency, quality, and performance in laser processing. Technology Investigation:
Explore and evaluate new technologies and opportunities that could benefit the organization, staying ahead of industry trends. Technical Support:
Provide robust technical support to operations, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring smooth, uninterrupted production. Equipment Implementation:
Lead the implementation of new equipment, including Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), ensuring seamless integration into existing systems. Cross-Site Collaboration:
Work closely with sister sites across E6 to maintain alignment in processes and equipment, fostering a unified approach. Prototype Development:
Develop prototype products for commercial partners, translating innovative ideas into tangible solutions. Qualifications
Educational Background:
Possess an engineering qualification with a bias towards Mechanical or Physics disciplines. A postgraduate degree in a laser-related field would be advantageous. Laser Technology Experience:
Have hands-on experience working with laser technology in any capacity, demonstrating practical knowledge and application. Process Improvement:
Experienced in process development and improvement within a production environment, familiar with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), and other relevant methodologies. Project Leadership:
Proven ability to lead projects, manage stakeholders effectively, and deliver results within set timelines. Supplier Collaboration:
Experience working with external suppliers, ensuring quality and timely delivery of components and services. New Technology Implementation:
Skilled in implementing new technologies, driving innovation, and improving operational efficiency. Data Analytics:
Proficient in data analytics and capable of presenting findings clearly and concisely to various stakeholders. Programming Knowledge:
Exposure to programming languages such as Python, Siemens PLC, R script, SQL, etc. Ability to read, understand, and modify code as needed. Communication Skills:
Excellent communication skills, capable of conveying information effectively to both senior management and operational teams.
