At the heart of this journey is our Legal team, a cornerstone of DeepL's commitment to ethical practices and regulatory compliance. Our mission is clear: to build and develop high-performing legal teams that embody DeepL's innovative spirit and drive for excellence. As a member of our Legal team, you will be at the forefront of navigating the complex legal landscape to support our growth and innovation. Working in close partnership with all departments, including Product, Engineering, Sales, and People & Culture, you will collaborate to ensure that our operations comply with all applicable laws and regulations. Your responsibilities

You will provide comprehensive and strategic legal advice on a wide range of privacy matters across multiple geographies, including the UK, EU, US and Asian markets to internal stakeholders

You will partner with commercial, product and engineering teams to help build cutting edge AI products and features

You will advise on online marketing activities and ensure compliance with UK and international laws and regulations

You will keep up to date with new and changing legislation, advise on potential impacts for the company, and support the business with implementing new legal requirements

You will also support the review and negotiation of supplier agreements with specific privacy implications.

You will contribute to the company's long-term data protection and privacy strategy and assist in creating and updating internal procedures, policies and guidelines

You will conduct specific training sessions for our teams on privacy related legal topics where helpful and necessary

You will provide proactive advice, fostering ownership and accountability, aligned with company culture while managing risk

Qualities we look for

A UK or US qualified lawyer with ideally at least 5+ years experience of advising on privacy matters as in-house counsel combined with prior experience in private practice

A successful candidate should have strong knowledge of GDPR and UK privacy laws, including emerging trends and best practices and have a solid understanding of global privacy laws, including US privacy laws

Experience working with cross-functional teams, such as product, commercial, marketing and IT-security teams to ensure compliance with privacy regulations

Proven experience in an international, multicultural environment

Experience working in a global tech company is highly desirable

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders at all levels

Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively in a fast-paced environment

Problem-solving and decision-making skills to analyse complex information and identify the key issue/action to drive resolutions

Excellent written, verbal communication, and presentation skills in English as we are an English-speaking organisation
