Join the team redefining how the world experiences design.
Hiya, g'day, mabuhay, kia ora, 你好, hallo, vítejte!
Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time consuming and you're probably keen to find out what's on offer, so we'll get straight to the point.
Where and how you can work
The buzzing Canva London campus features several buildings around beautiful leafy Hoxton Square in Shoreditch. While our global headquarters is in Sydney, Australia, London is our HQ for Europe, with all kinds of teams based here, plus event spaces to gather our team and communities. You'll experience a warm welcome from our Vibe team at front of house, amazing home cooked food from our Head Chef and a variety of workspaces to hang out with your teammates or get solo work done. That said, we trust our Canvanauts to choose the balance that empowers them and their team to achieve their goals and so you have choice in where and how you work.
What you’d be doing in this role
As Canva scales, change continues to be part of our DNA. This role is focused on:
Building ML models for AI-based photo editing, which involves staying up-to-date with the literature and evaluating state-of-the-art models applicable for commercial use.
Taking over project ownership responsibilities and driving projects with specialties like Frontend and Backend to success, including ownership of project timelines and collaboration with Design and Product.
Staying up-to-date with recent advances in AI for photo editing and bringing new ideas for AI-based features to the team.
Improving the quality of existing features by enhancing quality evaluation processes and introducing new ML ideas.
Boosting the efficiency of existing features through code optimization, incorporating new models or Python libraries, or re-evaluating and speeding up our full stack.
Collecting data for model training or evaluation, or delegating that to the Data Labelling team.
You're probably a match if
You have a Master's (ideally Ph.D.) degree in Computer Science (or similar), focusing on machine learning, with published papers in peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
You have a solid understanding of computer vision, especially the concepts of convolutional neural networks (CNNs), transformers, generative adversarial networks, and diffusion models.
You are proficient with deep learning frameworks (Pytorch preferred, but Tensorflow or JAX are also acceptable), Python 3, Numpy, OpenCV, Docker & Kubernetes.
You can quickly pick up knowledge of the state-of-the-art in specific ML topics, as most projects begin with literature research and context communication (across timezones).
You have a deep understanding of machine learning at scale, including training sophisticated models on large datasets and deploying these models on cloud platforms to efficiently serve millions of users.
You have a demonstrable sense of ownership and are eager to find and develop novel solutions to challenging problems, such as developing ML models for processing large images efficiently.
You are an excellent communicator and teammate, keen to collaborate with colleagues and brainstorm ideas together.
