We are currently seeking a Senior Management Accountant to join our Finance team. Reporting directly to the Financial Controller,the Senior Management Accountant will play a key role in providing financial insights to various departments within the company and ensuring that the month-end accounts are prepared each month, adding insight and efficiencies along the way. The successful candidate will be a key contributor to our company's financial success and will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on our growth and profitability.
You'll be:
Preparation of Management Accounts
• Working closely with the Financial Controller and the financial accounting team at month-end to close the books within 5 working days.
• Leading the preparation of the monthly profit and loss statement, including variance analysis, ensuring that balances are reviewed for accuracy.
• Reviewing departmental P&Ls and spend, analysing actuals against budget/forecast, and providing insightful commentary on variances to the FC/FD and senior leadership.
• Analysing financial data to identify trends, discrepancies, and opportunities for cost optimisation.
• Working closely with FP&A to ensure accurate budgeting and forecasting processes, providing useful insights into actuals.
• Preparing the monthly reporting pack on a timely and accurate basis, providing insightful analysis and commentary on Jellycat for FC/FD review.
Financial Analysis and Reporting
• Supporting the commercial finance and FP&A teams with ad hoc financial analysis to support departments or key projects, ensuring good cost control practices and enabling operational decision-making.
• Conducting in-depth variance analysis to provide actionable insights to management.
• Overseeing the reconciliation of sales reporting to BI reports and investigating discrepancies.
• Providing insights and recommendations for cost reduction, revenue enhancement, and profit optimisation.
Management and Coaching
• Mentoring and guiding your direct reports, fostering their professional development.
• Coaching the junior accounting team on the preparation of monthly accruals, prepayments, and similar accounting entries.
• Educating more junior accountants in performing commercial analysis on the numbers and helping them understand how their work fits into the 'bigger picture'.
• Reviewing work done by more junior members of the team to ensure accuracy.
• Identifying areas for streamlining processes and ways of working.
Team Management and Collaboration
• Leading, managing, and mentoring the management accounting team, fostering their development and growth within the company.
• Collaborating closely with FP&A, Commercial Finance, Accounts Payable, Credit Control, and other departments to deliver seamless financial operations and insights.
Other Areas
• Supporting the financial accounting team with the audit process, providing necessary support or documentation.
• Getting involved with various projects and ad hoc work as requested by senior management or other departments to assist the wider business.
• Supporting the financial accounting team in maintaining and improving internal controls and ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and local laws/regulations.
• Ensuring compliance with financial regulations and accounting standards, keeping up to date with changes in legislation or best practices.
• Continuously improving financial processes and reporting systems to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and the overall effectiveness of financial operations.
You'll have:
• Previous experience in management accounting and financial analysis.
• At least 3+ years PQE in management accounting, financial analysis, or related roles, and be either qualified or part-qualified.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop robust relationships across the business at all levels.
• Experience in managing people and demonstrate a willingness and desire to mentor, guide, and develop your team.
• The ability to work proactively andeffectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience in international wholesale (B2B) and e-commerce business models.
• A detail-oriented mindset with a focus on accuracy and efficiency in managing financial data and transactions.
• Strong commercial awareness, be analytical, and possess a high degree of numeracy.
• Post-qualification experience as a fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CPA, CIMA).
