You'll be the leading expert in a team undertaking advanced modelling and analysis to produce precision designs, concepts on CAD, and creating 3D engineering drawings, complete with accurate GD&T specifications suitable for aircraft. Your components and sub-assemblies are used in highly complex precision mechanisms to save lives, so it's important they are right the first time, using the best materials and made to extremely tight tolerances. You'll need at least a BSc degree in mechanical engineering or physics, preferably Chartered, combined with substantial commercial mechanical design experience, ideally using ANSYS, Siemens NX, or other 3D CAD systems and Teamcenter. An advanced knowledge of modelling stress and fracture analysis within a safety-critical or aerospace engineering environment is important. Knowledge of precision CNC machining and modern manufacturing methods will be highly beneficial.
