Progressive Engineering and a Global Name in Engineering are looking to recruit a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer on a permanent basis for their Engineering & Manufacturing HQ in the Baldock area (Hertfordshire), owing to succession planning, product development projects and business forecast for 2024-25+.

Reporting into the Engineering Design Manager, the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for the development of new mechanical products (including concept design, analysis, calculation & physical testing), from initial concept through to manufacture & delivery, as well as leading, mentoring & developing other Mechanical Design Engineers to help deliver NPD Projects.

Responsibilities of Senior Mechanical Design Engineer:

Leading, mentoring & developing other Mechanical Design Engineers to deliver NPD Projects. Develop new products from concept to volume production using the New Product Development process. Plan and execute design activities with a focus on safety, quality, cost and timing. Use of CAE tools including CAD (Creo), PDM (Windchill), FEA (Ansys) & CFD to ensure quality and robustness of design. High level of experience in 3D design and engineering drawings. Perform engineering calculations: stress, load, tolerance calculations. Understand and apply relevant industry standards to ensure products comply or exceed all requirements. Develop test plans, conduct product testing and produce test reports. Support concurrent engineering activities such as VAVE. Liaise with external parties including customers and suppliers on a technical basis. Drive continuous improvement within the engineering department.

Qualifications, Experience & Qualifications:

Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or similar - Aerospace Engineering, Motorsport Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering etc). Experience as a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer within an Engineering / Manufacturing / Production / Assembly environment. Experience using 3D CAD Software (Inventor, Solidworks, ProE, Creo etc) to create concept Engineering Drawings and Engineering Drawing Approval. Track record of leading a mechanical engineering team to deliver NPD projects. Experience of managing engineering teams and willing to be "hands-on". Experience of using CAE Analysis & Simulation / FEA Package AND Hand / Engineering Calculations to validate and prove design concepts. NPD / New Product Development experience (taking a project from concept to commercialization through the project lifecycle, including physical testing). An understanding of Engineering process tools (FMEA, DVP&R, DMR etc). Understanding of production methods (casting, metal fabrication, welding, machining, injection moulding) and material properties (metal, engineered plastic & rubber).
