I am seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, specializing in the design and development of medium to large-scale heavy machinery. This role involves leading design projects from concept to commissioning, providing technical oversight, mentoring junior team members, and ensuring the highest quality of engineering output.
Job Responsibilities:
Work collaboratively with the engineering team to allocate tasks, ensuring efficient workflow and resource management. Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, reviewing calculations, designs, and drawings to uphold technical accuracy and quality standards. Act as a point of technical escalation, offering solutions and expertise on complex design challenges. Undertake end-to-end design responsibilities, from tendering and concept development through detailed design, manufacturing, and commissioning. Develop innovative mechanical solutions tailored to client specifications and operational requirements. Ensure designs meet applicable safety, regulatory, and performance standards. Conduct thorough reviews of all engineering outputs, including calculations, CAD models, and technical documentation. Ensure designs are optimized for performance, manufacturability, and reliability while adhering to budget and timeline constraints. Promote continuous improvement within the team by refining processes and incorporating best practices.
Experience Required:
Degree-level qualification or a minimum of HNC in a relevant discipline. Proven experience in a mechanical and manufacturing environment. Several years' experience in design across a broad client base. Ability to take projects from initial design to final commissioning. Knowledge of mechanical handling and rotary machinery. Familiarity with MathCAD and Finite Element Analysis is beneficial. 3D CAD software experience, ideally with SolidWorks or Inventor.
