Senior Mechanical Design Engineer + 47,000 + 33 days holiday (inc BH) + Day shift with a lunch time finish on a Friday.
Our SME manufacturing client based in Ashton is looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their business in a permanent capacity. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electro-mechanical product development and support. This is an active mechanical design role within a team, sustaining existing products and developing new concepts and ideas for customer quotations and internal product development.
The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will interface and cooperate with sales, materials/procurement, manufacturing, and relevant qualification in mechanical engineering. Demonstrable practical experience of over 5 years, with a track record of successful product designs, is essential. All products are inherently electro-mechanical, so a good appreciation of mechanical and electrical design principles will be necessary. Experience in lighting or road/rail electromechanical products design would be desirable.
Main duties of the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer are:
Coordinate with the Engineering Manager on priorities according to business requirements.
Maintain existing products, designs, and documentation when changes are required.
BOM maintenance.
Liaise with design and manufacturing partners.
Provide technical support and solutions to quality & production; problem solving and product diagnosis as issues arise.
Provide technical support and input for the sales team and customer enquiries.
Design & develop new products that are reliable and meet the required road and rail product standards.
Prepare concepts, designs & prototypes for new products.
Liaise with 3rd party test partners to enable type testing of products.
Manage in-house testing & reporting e.g., thermal test and functional test for development and fault finding.
Review and implement customer standards in product designs and manufacturing processes.
Skills and experience required for the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer:
CAD 3D modelling & 2D detailing using engineering software CREO, SolidWorks, or similar - 3 years minimum.
Detail specification using GD&T tolerance studies.
Experienced at maintaining and creating configurable BOMs.
Technical documentation writing.
BOM & manufacturing software e.g., Syspro, SAP, SAGE, etc.
Microsoft 365 office tools: Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
Manufacturing processes: Plastic Injection Moulding, Vacuum forming, metal diecasting fabrication, and sheet metal.
Business processes and procedures, exposure to ISO 9001 document control systems.
Experience with electrical/electromechanical devices or components e.g., PCBs, LEDs, Connectors, Power Supplies.
Conversant & experienced with DFMEA studies.
Understanding and implementing industry standards & directives.
Qualification in a relevant engineering discipline; 5 years work experience in an engineering environment.
Experience with LED lighting or optics is desirable.
