£70/hr Umbrella (Inside IR35) Essential Responsibilities: Good mechanical services knowledge with foundational knowledge in design and build of process piping and treatment systems. Experience in line managing designers. Experience working in a 3D BIM environment. Highly Desirable Qualifications: Design experience in a highly regulated industry. Understanding of nuclear safety. Main Purpose of Role: Lead and manage one or more technical design packages, agreeing project-related objectives, managing designer performance, and providing Subject Matter Expert advice. Ensure design documentation covers the required scope of operations and is produced to agreed standards, schedule, and budget. Plan for effective project implementation, identifying key factors and leading the project's technical planning process. Ensure effective Quality Management Arrangements and compliance with Babcock's Business Management System and Technical Manual. Document processes and activities with appropriate records maintained, and apply configuration and quality controls. Communicate hazards and risks associated with the work undertaken by the engineering team through effective management of the Risk Assessment. Required Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Competences: Sound understanding of engineering design and safety practices relevant to discipline and project requirements. Experience in producing and checking a wide range of engineering reports and supporting junior engineers. Able to guide the creation of hand calculations to verify that concepts meet design requirements. Experience in design support for construction, operation, refit/repair of conventional and nuclear submarines and/or facilities, or in Hydrocarbon/Chemical process/plant systems. Experience substantiating process equipment for justification of Safety Functions (Nuclear preferred). Understanding of Functional Safety implications of process/plant design and design of safety systems. Able to produce and check Process Sequence/P&ID drawings. Able to produce and check fabrication drawings to recognised standards, e.g., BS8888. Chartered Engineer, registered with Engineering Council or working towards Chartership.
